TRON Legacy

It's true; somehow a Tron sequel seems kind of like the answer to a question that nobody asked...

I liked Tron, although I think the parts are greater than the whole and it's kind of oddly structured. It's certainly unique and has its own vibe which is hard to come by. Maybe it's one of those films that seems better when you think about it than when you're actually watching it.

How much of that is nostalgia? I went back and watched it and I don't see what people like about it.

I'll admit I haven't watched it in some time, but it's a fun concept, there's some cool imagery, and I always enjoy Jeff Bridges. It's not a movie I'm going to go to the mat to defend but I can see how a young person could watch it now, after hearing it being lauded by geeks for so long and expecting it to be this amazing movie, and it's not.

I liked Howard the Duck when I was a kid. I went back and watched it and realized one of the ducks had breasts. I couldn't even finish watching the movie.

(Tron + Jeff Bridges) x TODAY = F-YEAH!

So happy to see his face in it. I mean, yeah, he was gonna be in it for sure, but it is so nice to see his face in the TRON world again. And given the events of the other day... they are probably gonna make it a bit better than they planned.

Can't wait.

To all the nay-sayers with the tired "why r they doing this sequel? wtf" argument... EAT IT! HAHAHA!!!Just don't go see it and leave us alone. I love revisiting my childhood. It is awesome.

I've seen some unnecessary sequels in my day, but this don't look like one of them.

I totally agree.

The original Tron is really dated (in my opinion)... but I loved it as a kid... and I still love several aspects of the story. I've always been a Jeff Bridges fan anyway.

I hope they can surprise a few people with this one... instead of squeezing the last drop of storyline... and spreading it super thin... For this to work, it's going to have to be a sequel +1... I don't think it should continue too closely to where the last one left off... time passing or not. They need to elevate the premise of the last film... and then run with that new level. The arcade... and the digitizing gun are really scaring me... I don't think that's a good sign... the arcade MAYBE... but not the digitizing gun. I feel like geek-dad's will be talking to their geek-prodigy-kids when that gun appears... telling the kids how it used to work... um, not cool.

Honestly... I don't know HOW they can pull this off successfully... but I really hope they have some great writers.

I'm dying to know something... when we first talked about this it was supposedly a fake trailer... something somebody dreamt up to try and persuade investment... is this what actually happened? Was this "some fan's idea" which became reality?

Well two of the co-exec producers of Lost are the writers... dunno about you, but I think Lost has always had a lot of strong writing.

Not really...The director is a well known commercial director who made that reel while he was lobbying the studio for the job.

Sequels don't have to be as good as the originals... they hardly ever can be. The writer doesn't feel the mojo, the original concepts are not a surprise anymore, and they can generally be nothing but a rushed money scheme. Unfortunatelly, big actors being attached doesn't mean dick shi* either, cause they have to do one for the studios every so often so that they can get funding for whatever project comes their way that does get their blood boiling... but, if you go in knowing all of this, and letting go of everything, just looking at it as a big ass nod to something you loved... you can have a good time.

Problem is, when someone like Tim Burton jumps aboard you expect more no matter how much you try to let go. xP But I have ZERO expectations for TRON, I will meditate like a fuken monk before it, my expectations shall be Z-E-R-O, and I will love it. (pls entertainment gods, please, let Tron be good, PLEASE!! I'll do anything!!! ANYTHING!!!)

I think the trailer looks awesome. I am really looking forward to this, though I wonder how much of the target audience has seen the original movie.

Wow, you lose hope easy.

FWIW I'm working with an Art Director who was on it and he's still optimistic...

...and you know the Art Department is the most pessimistic of all departments...
