Hi people.

I'm on a budget and have run into a problem. My cheap photo tripod is no good for my 7D + indiSlider mini. I'm thinking about getting a tripod for about £200. I have seen the following, wonder if anyone uses them and if they are good enough?

Still yet to purchase a rail system and follow focus.

Tripod 1 - Manfrotto 547B with 701HDV head

Tripod 2 - Manfrotto 055XBK with 701HDV head

Thanks a lot for your help.

I have the 701hdv with the 055xbk, it's a nice piece of kit for my 7D. Just waiting for my glidetrack to arrive so I can really have some fun with it.

If you are considering a rail system with MB and FF, you may want to step up to something which can support more than 4kg (8.8lbs)*. Especially if you plan to mount any monitors, batteries, lights, audio recorders, microphones, or sliders on the tripod at the same time.

**This figure comes from Manfrotto's official site.

Thanks a lot guys. So something beefier is definitely needed for add ons. Though the 547 states a load capacity of 4kg.

I am also in the same position. I have a shoot coming up soon and don't want to use my buddies Bogen 501hd(which is already falling apart). I have a very similar budget around $400 or less. I'll also look for good used buys.

The thing is I am familiar with the ultra cheapos and the ultra expensive , and understand a good fluid head tripods don't come for less than $900 or so. I also know the value of good tripod and head so I don't need to be schooled on that.
I am just on a tight budget as well as tight time frame and I am unfamiliar with the lower-mid range options. I was thinking a bogen 501 was my best choice. I will be mounting a liliput 7inch monitor as well and maybe rails. The Bogen 501 I know could handle that and my 7D. What are some good options. Is the 701 better than the 501. The 503 with sticks is a bit out of my range. Are there any other good brands at this price. Are there any sleeper values?

Hi JFresh, I wish I could help you there but I've now decided to go for a 'Libec LS 38' - about double my original budget.
