Tripod Help

save some more money and get at least a Manfrotto 503/525 combo or a small Sachtler or Vinten (DV6 or Vision 3). Trust me: The so called "fluid-effect" tripods or cheapo tripods won't make you happy and in the end you'll go with one of those mentioned above... So you better buy a good one at the beginning so you can save the 200$ for the cheap solution...

"save some more money and get at least a Manfrotto 503/525 combo"

I agree with maniero. I bought a 503HDV & I'm still not impressed. But it's the least expensive "almost pro" tripod for the money. The driftback & start/stop shake is noticable on close/extreme closeup shots. Not to bad on establishing shots(barely noticable actually). Now I'm saving for a satchler or cartoni. They are really amazing tripod heads. Expensive too, but not as expensive as starting with an optex, then Manfrotto 055 legs&128RC head, then 503HDV and then a Cartoni, Satchler.....lol.

Yeah, you would be better off with a bogen 503 or higher. I use a 501 and its actually pretty good, dont forget that legs are just as important as the head.

I've been using a Vinten Vision 5...but recently one of the tightening knobs broke off and one of the legs is cracked. I was just looking for an easy fix, but now I'm realizing that I should just save up some money. I should be able to use my Vinten head and place that on some sticks. I also rock a Cartoni pod, but one of the legs on that one is bent...but still usable.

Thanks for the input!

While you are looking - check out the Miller SOLO sticks - I just purchased the carbon fibre ones and they are simply outstanding!!

Lightweight, stable, minimal "wind-up" (the legs don't twist when executing a pan), goes from 9" up to 63" and the best part - NO STUPID SPREADER to fiddle with :)
