Hi there,

I am looking for a new tripod for my DSLR and I am thinking of a Sachtler FSB4 with carbon fiber legs:

So far my setup has been very light, DSLR canon 60D with tamron 17-50mm or Canon 70-200 L4 IS with H4n on top and microphone... Maybe an external monitor in the future.. I always try to stay light with my setup and the head can only take 8.8Lbs, is it too short ?

How heavy is your DSLR rig and what do you have ?

Well fully assembled (RedRock, SmallHD, ZOOMh4n, Dfocus, Mattebox, ex....) my rig is around 10 pounds.

I just got the Miller ds-20:

and given its capacity it has no problem whatsoever with the weight. If you are interested in something cheaper theres also the ds-10 which is around a $1000 both are extremely good tripods and I would highly recommend either of them.

I would not recommend the Miller Solo legs. For small height adjustments it becomes a pain.
I very much like the Sachtler CF legs, much better than their standard fair.

The FSB4 is great for light setup's. If you might eventually have more heavily configured rigs, the CineDSLR is terrific. It can handle the extremely light situations and yet I have found it is able to go up to almost twice it's maximum suggested weight while still retaining very controlled movements.

In any case, movements on these heads are terrific.

Hi Yoclay,

Would I damage the head if I put for exemple 11lb on a FSB4? I understand that I won't be able to balance it correctly but would I damage the head ?

Thanks!
