Tripod and head advice

I can totally agree with that statement. Even though I thought I was spending alot when I bought this: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produ...ford_PROVISTA7518B_Pro_Vista_Tripod_with.html

I heard good reviews about it and was told it did the job. But:

It stutters every time I try and pan it, it barely holds my camera safely on the head, is made of this pretty cheap aluminum crap, and it even has has this sticky resin around the head that gets on your hands every time I use it. The only thing it does do well is tilt, but is that worth 200 bucks? Don't think so.... I wish I could send it back is all I gotta say..

how is the dolly that comes with it? i realize its not going to be anywhere near top quality considering the price and design, but for $40 is it halfway decent?

By all means, have a look at the Bogen 475B with the 503HDV head. It's been a good combo for me, and can reach up to about 74". I have two of them.

I've used these legs for shooting with a 4x5 view camera. They are totally solid, weigh a ton, but that's part of why they are solid.

These legs get around the absence of a ball head by having easy to adjust mid-level supports, you can extend the legs, and just adjust their angle to straighten the tripod out. Still slower and annoying sometimes, but it works.

$200 gets you a nice used bogen on ebay :P
I'm actually selling my dvx so I'm gonna pawn that tripod off with it. Can you send me a link to what I should get? 200's the budget... Thanks man.

What's $40 bucks? To be honest, I haven't really used the dolly on it but once. It's on small, cheap plastic wheels, so it really could only work smoothly on the some really smooth concrete or wood.
