Trip to Mammoth

On a recent trip to Mammoth I shot this. I broke every rule of good photography, shot from the car, the side of the road and without a tripod. Sometimes nature is so amazing that all you have to do is point, focus and shoot.

Not exactly a work of art but better than it should be considering the whole thing was done in about five hours on two overcast and rainy days.

looks amazing chuck. can u expand of the grading process (im assuming there is grading). luv the colours in this.

also is Mammoth some sort of park?

Hi Jambredz,

Thanks for watching. I used Apple's Color for grading. Most of this was shot while it was overcast and raining, the original footage looked really flat, it was amazing how the color came to life.

Sorry, I'm so US centric [and I'm Australian], Mammoth is a large ski resort in central California, June Lake is about 20 minutes from there and Yosemite is about an hour from there. I never new that the trees changed color so vibrantly anywhere in California. I've had a lot of positive feedback, but I can honestly say this video didn't do justice to the real beauty. If you ever have the chance to visit Yosemite and Mammoth this time of year. I'd recommend it...

kool...thanks for sharing. really looked good. could be part of an advert or sumn. i must say the 7d held up prety nicely with all those wides.

I shoot quite a bit and have been noticing some things I'd like to change. I shot the Bodie video with two Cannon lenses and everything was crisp and sharp [except where I didn't get the focus right], the June Lake video I added the Tamron 17-50 f/2.8, there was quite a bit of noise in the shots of the brightly colored leaves that wasn't in the shots with the Canon lenses. That noise exacerbates the moiré.

I'd like to try a 5dMkII with L-glass to see how much a difference there is. I don't think it matters what camera you start with at some point you start testing and pushing it. I'm just happy this camera works so well in auto...
