F3: Trigger External Recorder w/o internal media

I always record to internal and external simultaneously. I have a gig which I want to record external only.
Can my F3 trigger record (via the record button(s)) without having internal media and/or recording to it.

For those with an inquisitive mind: it's long format, and my external recorder has more capacity than I have internal.

You can't. The only thing you can do is set the KPM to record from the record button on the KPM.

The new KPM firmware recognizes Sony SDI roll triggers. I just tried it on a shoot and it worked great.

Can't do it with the BM Shuttle.

I have no problem rolling with my Samurai and no internal cards in the camera.

It's in the same menu as the SDI options (and S-Log), can't remember the exact wording but you can change the record mode from synchro to i/f or something like that and it will trigger the samurai without internal media in the camera.
