Transformers

My older brother (I'm 36) Tivo'd all the specials and "making of" for this flick... I haven't seen him so excited about a movie in YEARS... After seeing it today he's in agreement with C.G. Eads and Phil Maker on this one.

I haven't seen it yet, but I will have to see it at the theater just for the effects... although... my brother probably did me a favor regarding my expectations... when he told me that the transformers all had unique voices... including one with a "black" affect... and I read in this thread that one had a British accent.

What the hell man... what the hell. Why isn't there somebody in Hollywood that can prevent Jar-Jar Bink-isms?

Also... I agree that it was odd to have the Transformers "gain" so much material in the transforming process... it would have been way cooler if the vehicles and their tranformed counterparts SEEMED to be of remotely similar mass.

In Jurassic Park 4 the T-Rex doesn't have to have evolved wings... and fly down in herds as they sneak attack the tourists. It's a bummer that cinematography has become so refined and yet simple concepts like composition, angle, lighting, and acting are being usurped by CGI as a means to induce temporary awe.

dont trust phil maker he has no opinion to give since his works hasn't been seen... i think the movie is a fun flick probli one of the funnier flicks this year and it cost less than all the big bugdet films this year even evan almighty budget was bigger. so think when you see the robots you will be surprised. I enjoyed and my father did, he said I can see why you played with those toys then.

I think looked at objectively Jurassic Park doesn't really hold up. It has a firmer place in movie history for it's groundbreaking effects, and the T-Rex attack is a masterpiece of suspense filmmaking, but as a whole, yep, I'd put them in the same neighborhood. As cheesy as Independence Day is at times, nothing in it is as nails on a blackboard bad as that ice cream eating scene in Jurassic Park, one of the worst Spielberg has ever directed.

Okay, I re-read my review and admit I was a little angry. I was fresh off the movie and needed to vent. Now that I've had some time to think about it, I still can't find anything that I liked.

You see, even though I found all those faults, there was really only one that mattered. I just wanted to see robots fight. I wanted to back away and see them running around buildings and throwing each other around. Instead I was always up next to them at a weird angle and never got to see any true fighting. Like Neo and Smith in the train station in the first Matrix. I know they aren't robots. But let's back up a little and see these robots fight like they fought. Do we have to be moving on EVERY shot? Doesn't that confuse you the viewer a little bit? Or do you not care?

I'm asking all those who loved the movie out there how they could not find fault with this. Was it that I just couldn't keep up with everything? Or did you forgive it because you didn't really care? I'm honestly wondering cause I thought the fighting could've been soooooo much better.

Entertaining, but ****. I had no problem watching it, but I won't see it again or recommend it.

i found it entertaining im not sure exactly why but i think it has to be something. i feel something when watching it like a rushing sense, like I was a kid all over again. And i see every movie thats comes out every week. ive seen spiderman 3 pirates knocked up evan almighty 1408 surfs up die hard just to name a few none of them made me feel like transformers....

I mean I think if it was better director aboard like speilburg then it would have been better.... but i took the fact that it was going to be a roller coast of fun and thats what i had. i did want to think to hard i just sit back and relaxed and I could have critqued it and i wil when i see it for the third time but nit picking would only drive me to dislike it. I mean i hate his other work... at least its now uwe bolls.... coul you imagine his transformers... and c.g. you got to admit the robots look real and the transformations are impressive. and yes shakey cam for it as too much but hey i knew how much work those compositers had so I congrat to them.

Geez, why don't you gather up the money and make your own "Transformers"?
It is so cool that a bunch of dilettantes can find fault with filmmakers that are established moneymakers. Complain all you want, Michael Bay is going to continue making films without your input. It is probably going to make only about a half billion dollars. I drove a van with Michael Bay and the remote camera operators for the freeway sequences (right in the middle of the explosions) . He knows what he wants and works his A$$ off to get it. So complain all you want, just try to match his track record.....

Transformers was great! Even at 2 1/2 hours, it felt too brief.

Shia LaBeouf is amazing as Sam. His relationship with Bumblebee was especially awesome and made TF all the more special. It really got to the center of TF lore.

Special effects... what can I say? Amazing too!

great movie. i noticed the crowd in the theatre was of all ages from young to old ...during the movie they cheered, they yelled when a big action event happened and at the end people clapped and sat there and watched the credits. that's what a good movie should do.

my only gripe is that there were way too many damn comic reliefs...every character had a freakin' joke to tell in some kind of way. example: the autobots land on earth through meteors in different places and some fat geek kid with a camcorder runs out to see while blurting out lame jokes and asking the government men in black who are confiscating the scene if he can have "a space rock"

other than that i'd go see it again. in fact, a few teens on the way out were saying how they were going to see it again the next day. wonder how much Michael Bay is getting off this???

why does everybody hate michael bay so much??? they even cracked on him on Entourage last season. i dont get it. there are far worse directors out there with jobs i'm sure.

i just saw this movie and wasnt expecting to like it much. i wasnt a huge Transformers fan and Im not huge on Michael Bay but I have to admit its one of the better movies Ive seen in a while. Its just a good time and Shia is awesome.

Michael Bay may make more movies than I do. But I can guarantee I watch more movies than he does. And that makes me more of an expert in that area. I don't care how or why he gets the shots that he does. All I can tell you is that they suck.

No creds on IMDB as of yet. Just signed with a talent manager and agent here in Hollywood. Won't be long now. As for talent and what makes me qualified to decide... Talent recognizes talent. That's all. Talent is nothing more than having good taste. Some were born with it... some can't buy it with all their millions. American Idol is a great example. Only a handful of people have talent. It's the same in every area of life. Some people are lucky and become very succesful at something they were never meant to do. People like William Hung.
And Michael Bay.

Yes he was!

Yes he was!

star scream will be in the next one more. plus if you noticed star scream was bad ass just in general.

I saw it for the second time today, and man I had even more fun. I thought of many of the comments that were mention here on DVXuser and I still enjoyed it. The transformations were unbelievable. Star Sceam was the beast. I loved his in air transformations that somehow I didn't really pay close attention to the first time.

This movie is the Shiz-Nit!!!

Obviously everyone is entitled to their opinion, and of course you are entitled to yours. I wish you good luck in Hollywood. I've been here for over 23 years and having an agent is a big step, but unfortunately you are now another small fish.
I wasn't a big Michael Bay fan and am not now necessarily. What I do know is this, his movies are entertaining (for the most part) and he knows exactly what he needs for coverage and shots, and he works his butt off to get them. They also make a pile of cash at the box office.
With any luck at all, someone will come up and give you $150 million to make Transformers the way you would have shot it. But by then, it may cost $250 million, that is if they actually let us shoot in Hollywood anymore. Because the Hollywood movie is now the Canadian movie, the Louisianna movie and the New Mexico movie.
Letting Michael Bay shoot the way he did in downtown L.A. might not happen again.
There has been a huge push to ban any kind of action movies filming downtown at all.

I went to see the movie last night. I dont think the story was lacking whatsoever. Its about this kid that is trying to get laid. He discovers that he can use his car/robot to convince this chick to put out. And it ends up that it was his great grandfathers glasses being posted on ebay that eventually leads him to getting some. On top of his car no doubt. Wow, awesome!!

The IMDB ran a story yesterday that Bay posted a bizarre rant on his website then yanked it--but it got archived in google where he attacked one of the producers for supposedly trying to take credit --sounded quite infantile.

Directors get way too much credit for something that has alot to do with the work of the fx people anyway. It was really true with Jurassic Park, and true with something like this. Crowds dont go to this to see a good story and characters--they go for the fx sequences(not saying that there shouldnt be a good story and characters but that's the main draw for something like this).

Lots of other directors could have made a watchable movie with giant robots. Paul Verhoeven, if he was having a good year, could have done a kick ass job. Robocop's fx are dated now but the story and characters hold up great.
