Transformers

It was your analogy, dude. :)

Those who buy the "wrong" format will be no more "screwed" than those who bought Betamax VCRs, 8-track tape decks, laserdisc players, 8-inch floppies, or any other failed format . . . it'll only mean that they backed the wrong horse, and that's life.

Besides, there will be no "coasters" as long as you still have your player.
Yeah, I know. But the point is still valid. It is no longer the consumers influencing the product, but the studios. Personally, I'll wait it out, and don't give a crap about either format. I am not going to drop that kind of money of a DVD player... not to support some studio exec's crack habit anyways. (Yeah, that's a real stretch too, so sue me ;)

Why wouldn't it be the consumers influencing the product?

It would make no sense for a studio to stop releasing titles on a format if that format is selling, especially if it's selling better than the other.

What this announcement indicates to me is that Paramount and Dreamworks have seen data which makes them think Blu-Ray is going to end up the loser, and they're responding according to the market response.

Companies don't tend to withdraw products which are selling well, so there must obviously be something to the decision other than a desire to screw consumers. And Paramount (or any large co.) is privy to data that others aren't, so I'd guess they know something.

Finally got to see this last night. My eyes and head are still hurting from the camera work. I was really looking forward to it but was VERY disappointed. I felt nothing for any of the characters and was bored most of the time. When there were actions scenes I couldn't tell what the hell was happening so there was no sense of danger, just confusion. I hope this shakey-camera trend is just a fad.

Oh, and the final fight scene didn't make any sense at all. There are 5 autobots, right? One was torn apart, bumblebee was disabled (but towed around), Optimus was fighting Megatron (sometimes), but where were the other two? They were gone most of the time the humans were fighting the decepticons. Then, when it was all over, you see the two other autobots standing around. If I were Optimus and the soldiers I would have been ticked-off.

Maybe I missed something. Which is possible considering the lousy camera work (see first paragraph).

I just picked the DVD up, and watched it again (saw it twice in theaters) loved it again... I really just love the pace of the film, the writing, the acting (humans) and the effects are top notch... I disagree with PK on this one regarding the camerawork, I think it's excellent.

The pace?

Even the 3849738453 hour long scene where they are trying to find the glasses in his house?

"oh, it was downstairs, OOPS!"

EDIT:
I found the pace to be terrible, especially when combined with many of the useless parts of the film, like the secret group led by John Turturo or the hacker subplot.

Yeah, the scene where they were looking for the glasses... they were in a hurry, but the scene just dragged on, but it was funny as hell too. Giant robots trying to hide in the back yard? Wanting to waste the puppy? I was rolling!

I loved it, the scenes with megan fox were amazing, bending over the car like that....hmmm mmm that was a good movie.

Watched this again on HD DVD, which looked amazing. I still enjoyed this film the second go around. The action scenes were a little easier to grasp on a smaller screen. I think the main problem is that Bay tried framing many of the action shots with humans in the foreground, but it just clutters up the frame as the constantly Transforming robots are already visually busy. Megan Fox's performance doesn't really hold up. The first time I was too distracted by her hotness. I don't blame her as Bay has never directed women well. I'm not going to defend this film as I can easily see someone not liking it, but it makes me excited and gets me off, kind of like a cheap hooker.

I agree. The HD looks amazing and the fight scenes were easier to keep track of on a smaller screen.

As to Megan Fox, I have no opinion.

This movie didn't set out to please an audience comprised of 30-40 somethings. The ones that did enjoy it simply had fun.

Transformers the Movie was meant for a younger male audience and appealed to that audience thousands of times over, hence it's success.

As much as I wanted to hate this movie before I went into it, I can't wait to watch the BTS and re-watch it a good five times. Go Bay.

You don't even need to buy the DVD, just watch the commercial for the DVD and it covers all of the best scenes and it shows the hot chick, what else is there?

I just read, in the Grindhouse thread, you being upset at Hudson for spitting on other people's opinions. What was the term you used for it?
