does anyone know of a transcoder of some kind for PC that i can convert my 720 60p footage? I work with sony vegas 9.0 and that glitches and well, you all know the problems with 60p, but it's great for slow motion.

You can use the mainconcept DVCProHD transcoder then buy dvfilm's Raylight.

NEO Scene is another option (slightly cheaper).

Or you could follow the advice in this thread. This is free but you'll have to do some work to batch transcode.

well I downloaded that free AVC to DVCproHD transcoder from Panasonic, I import the file, and the thing tells me I can only convert clips shot on a panasonic camera, well i shot it with an hmc150.....

Hi
Did you import directly from the SD card / stream folder?
Thats the only way I think - worked for me.

You can do it from your desktop, but you need the directory structure along with it. Copy it all and you should be good to go.

ok so I used the P2 transcoder from panasonic and it worked, but it just made some weird files in XMF format..... Sony Vegas can't read such a format of file.....

TMPGenc is awesome. Converts almost anything to almost anything.

It does work well, just slow. Other than its slowness, the only thing I don't like is that occasionally it will ask you to confirm activation before it will let you use it. Well, that's fine if you currently on an internet connection but if you are not then you are screwed until you can get to one. Its installed on my laptop, so its caused me a headache a few times.

Other than that its good softeware. I use it all the time.

Vegas doesn't read DVCPRO-HD MXF files. If you want to use those files you should try downloading the trial version of Raylight from DVFilm.com; Raylight is a plug-in that makes Vegas compatible with those kinds of files.

They have a 7-day trial version, so you could download it and time it on your system. As with all transcoder software, the time to convert is probably highly dependent on your computer horsepower.
