Transcode to Canopus HQ or DVCPROHD

All I know is the quality is quite good and the files the avchd2hq converter spits out on the 'fine' setting are 1920x1080, look great, and play nice with vegas (in 32-bit mode). I still need to play with DNxHD at this point since it looks like another good free codec.

Grass Valley's website recently underwent some design changes and things have disappeared, including the info on the canopus editing codecs.

Free codec? Where can I download the Canopus Codec? I'd like to try it against the DNxHD codec.

You can try it out by installing the 30-day edius trial, but the encoder won't work after the trial is up. The codec isn't free, but most people have a full copy of edius neo 2 in the box with their HMC, making it free to them.

Ahhh, that makes more sense now. If it was really a good codec that worked well inside Vegas, I was very interested. But not if I have to buy the program.

Thanks for clearing that up.

They have a free decoder, but not a free encoder/decoder.

Once the codec is installed, it is available (encoding and decoding) from within Vegas. But you'd have to have Neo or EDIUS in order to get the encoding portion in the first place.

I know that Avid's DNxHD is available from 32-bit Vegas. From what I read here, Canopus codec is also accessible from 32-bit Vegas, is this true? Aargh, 64-bit Vegas does not want to recognize neither Canopus nor Avid codecs.

I bought my HMC when they first came out. When did Panasonic put edius neo 2 in the box? Maybe it is here and I missed it?

Then you're doing something wrong. I encode DNxHD from 64bit Vegas every week.
Interesting. I installed the Avid DNxHD codec pack, but these codecs are not visible under Vegas 64-bit. Maybe you did some other magic? Where did you get the Avid drivers, maybe mine are old?

I've installed the drivers on 6 machines now. And had numerous others install it as well. No magic to it. Where are you looking for the codecs in your NLE?

Download is here:

That's the latest version of them.

If you are registered on the PASS site, you should see links there to request a CD and a serial for Neo 2. This offer was for a period of months up to October - folks who bought a HMC150/40 after then can request Neo 2.5 Booster.

I'm not sure when the Neo2 offer started though ... hopefully not after you bought yours!
