tram tr-50 lav->zoom h4n->GH1

I'm looking for the best bang for the buck on documentary interviews... I'm finding indoor tests with the H4n onboard not cutting it (basically you have to stick the H4n in the person's face to get a decent signal to noise even at mic level 90s (unless I'm missing something here?) I'm also getting too much room noise/tone.

I'm curious if the H4n can power the tr-50 (direct from xlr). There is a an accessory battery power module "TR79" for the tr-50 with balanced xlr out but I'm wondering if I can forgo it?

think this is a good route? Comes to about $500 total...

Now if I could just disable the GH1 autogain for a little mix!!! :evil: It's crap at any volume from the H4n set to any output volume due to it... at least in my experience.

I've learned that the adapter essentially dials the phantom power down to 1.5ish for the mic and happens to have a battery that you can remove. So it is needed. Bother.

Guess I'm stuck with the $315 B&H version that seems to have the power supply built in?? thus the 'PS' at the end of the part no.

We powered mics from the stock H4N through phantom... well, I think it's a stock H4N, you'd have to ask Jack Daniel Stanley which model it is.

Just thought I'd report back. This combo works awesome. The tram tr50'PS' has a battery but if you remove it you can use the H4n phantom to power it.

I'm splitting the signal out of the h4n headphone jack so I can monitor and feed it to the GH1 for better sync.

Did some interviews yesterday with the nikon 17-35 (with this sound rig) and they turned out really awesome. Finally my interviews are starting to look and sound like serious film productions. It's amazing to me.

After 20 minutes it seemed to drift slightly out of sync... but a quick adjustment of 99.99% speed and re-align did the trick.
