FEATURE: TRAILER - SUPERSEEDS | Super Powered Adventure

I've been lurking on this board for years and always find posts from you and other vets insightful.
I just clicked on this link and watched the trailer. O__O Wow!

Dude, you are killing it and make me feel freakin' ashamed.
Incredible work.

I'm still going through this thread and probably will come up on it but, did you dig the RED One MXs?
And would you recommend picking up one or was the workflow (production and post) a hassle?

Haha well thanks man. Hopefully the actual product lives up to that.

In regards to RED MX, at the time it was pretty solid and likely the best that I could've possibly gotten, even at a larger budget. That's what everyone was shooting so I was very lucky to have scored a pair of them to shoot on. Since then I've had to shoot some GH2 hack material to plug in.

If I were shooting an ultra low/no budget today, my short list of cameras would read like:

Blackmagic MFT
F55 (when it's out)
Epic
Scarlet
GH2/5D

That's actually in order from most preferred to least preferred option on a budget. MX is quite heavy when rigged properly, and when rigged improperly it's not very usable and still bulky. While it's come down in price drastically for a used model, I'm not sure if I would spend the initial four-thousand dollars along with another three to four thousand to get it working right, not when there're better options to rent for that budget (F55, Epic, Scarlet) or even purchase (Blackmagic MFT yesssssss).

That's just me though, however, and you should definitely get a few more opinions! I'm generally centered on the thought that I'll go and do another feature, or more narrative content, so that's always in the back of my head as I go to decide which weapon to choose.

F55 is looking SUPER solid right now, couple that with the modularity and I think it could be a serious indie cam even stripped down to just recording internally. Whew! Blackmagic MFT is my trump, though. =D

Interesting. No c100 or c300?

Also, how do you compare the images of the RED One MX and the Scarlet?
I may be the minority in this but I did like the images of the MX over the Scarlet. (And that's not because Fincher said the same thing!)
I know its all about post processing, but I usually can spot the Scarlet/Epics image pretty quickly whereas the MXs
have a more "filmic" or "organic" look. To me.

I'd like to see more footage from the F5/F55 because Sony has always had that video look to me.
The F3's image isn't bad though.

Thanks for the response man!
Peace

C300 isn't bad... but, unless it's a very lowlit sort of deal then I'm not so sure HOW I feel about that camera. I'm always back and forth, but never stay back (or forth) for long on it.

I haven't really compared them, I'd imagine the Scarlet being slightly better but not by a grand margin. The major thing for me is the size of the camera in comparison.

Can't stand F3, and I'm not sure I'll like the F5 either but the short on Vimeo called DIG (over in the Sony user subsection) doesn't have the typical Sony look to me. Looks REALLY good.

Ah well, so many tools/choices. xD

Have you decided how you're going to release the film once it's ready? Any festivals in mind? Maybe selling the film over Vimeo + DVD / Blu Ray option?

Oi...

Well should be no surprise that without the dough, things start to crawl. And, especially if you're in WAY over your head. Today I have the first DVD screener:

Next week will probably bring the longest and darkest days ever, but it's still kind of neat seeing an actual DVD of this thing...

If having children's anything like trying to deliver a feature film, not sure I want children. This one took forever to start looking for a damned job. =X

www.facebook.com/superseeds -- the actual movie poster's there if interested, and however many followers we can get that are genuinely interested in the project? The better.

That's when we start to send the screeners out to a few places, and wait on those few places to get back to us. Going to be a very long process and likely some let downs. xD

Stop being so modest, it is gonna do great!!! Like Tony the Tiger Frosted Flakes "Greaaaatttt!"

Yeah I'd be really surprised if there were major letdowns. Who has a (feature length) indie film at this level that looks this good?

Kholi, we just went through this process. Please feel free to run the names of any companies by me as they come up and I'll let you know if I happened to learn anything about them, good or bad.

Kholi,

I think you're going to be pleasantly surprised at the process. Afterwards will be another slog though. Get ready for MORE work in terms of Delivering :)

-M

Kholi is right to be cautious about the process! It's a tough one that you can't really appreciate the challenge of until you're out there attempting it (as I am / have done too!) Countless times, great films can be overlooked (either creatively great or technically) because of the definitive type of product most distro's look for! Still any kind of film 'can' get released, but yep, the process always seems longer than what appears reasonable to folks looking in from the outside :P

Good luck on getting the kinda deal you're looking for Kholi!

I went through the process too and sort of got burned. You've got a great product, don't hook up with a third-degree middleman--find someone who can actually execute distribution, not find somebody else to distribute. Somebody who will sell your movie and not just offer it if you see what I'm saying.
