Trailer for featuere shot on DVX

Looks great! Story reminds me a bit of RAGING BULL, and every shot looks wonderfully cinematic. You really got the most out of this camera like Steve Buscemi did with LONESOME JIM.

I would definitely want to see this movie. Could you tell us a bit more about it, budget, shoot info, etc? And when it will be released?

Congrats! You should be proud.

Thanks for the kind words. It was definitely a labor of love.

The movie is about a family of boxers who have let the past get the better of them. For us boxing was not really the focus, we wanted the focus to be on the relationship between fathers, daughters, sons, and friends. Those relationships that we sometimes take for granted.
The project took us about a year due to conflicts in the talent schedules.

It originally started out as a short and was experimental. We only had 5 pages and worked off of that. We were counting on the experiences of our actors who are in fact boxers.
We then liked it so much that we just kept adding to it.
It was shot in Queens, NY and in NYC, including a scene in Central Park. We used the 24pa setting but unlike Lonesome Jim we didn't use an adapter.

The budget was about 25,000. Spent mostly on crew which i've always believed is the way to go.
We are currently looking for distribution.

Hope that answers all your questions.
Thanks
Jose

Sure does! Wow, 25K, that's impressive. The best movie I've seen shot with the DVX was LAND OF PLENTY by WIM WENDERS but he had half a million and was able to color correct in a Da Vinci. Your movie looks great.

I love the music, the acting, cinematography and title - coupling the boxing theme with the shadows in the families past. As an editor/grader, I was curious as to what you edited it and color corrected with? And who did the music?

Just a couple of points -

On your website, it says "CLICK PLAY TRAILER" on the large rectangle. I took that to mean "CLICK THE RECTANGLE TO PLAY TRAILER" at first, before I realized I had to click on the link at the bottom of the page, which is quite small and easily missed. I don't know if other users did what I did and then thought the website was down and didn't get a chance to see the trailer.

Perhaps try posting a section in the CAFE ALA DVX section. This gets heaps of viewers, whereas this section is really hidden away and doesn't get much traffic. Your trailer deserves to be seen by as many people as possible.

Could you please let us know when the DVD is available, I'd really like to see it. Thanks again and all the best. This is really inspiring work.

Yeah, I'd love to buy the dvd. my two cents.. maybe my headphones are weird but the audio levels seemed to compete with each other ex: music was too loud in some spots you couldnt hear the dialouge. thats all i got, Looks great!

Thanks guys. I appreciate the feedback. I've kind of always had the same feeling about the play trailer area. I'll let the web designer know to change that.

As far as how the films was edited and CC'd. I've got a hefty Mac Pro running FCS 2. We originally had an editor who ended up backing out due to the time commitment. I've edited in the past so I ended up finishing the edit.

I sat down with the DP for the initial CC. To get something down quick I used the FC 3 way filter. I then went back into Apple's Color and finished the CC and final color grade. We didn't want to color grade to much because we all really liked the look that came right out of the camera. Color is such a great app and i can't wait to use it again.

The composer's name is Brian Knox. He had done the music for my previous short "La Arana" which you can also preview on the website.

As far as the sound of the trailer. I'll have to run some tests. Out of my laptop and Mac Pro using my reference monitors it sounds good. but i when i tried it out at work i did find that the sound was a bit off. Again, i'll have to do some tetst.

Hutch. Thanks for the heads up on the cafe section. And also, Wim Wenders is such a great director. Seems like we have a similar taste in films.

Thanks again
Jose

This was one of my only minor complaints about the trailer. That and I thought the artificial glare effect coming off of the title cards was a bit much. Maybe tone that down a bit.

Either way, it's just a trailer, and a darn good one at that. Seeing projects like this always gets me excited. I hope the film gets distributed, because it looks like it has a lot to offer. Way to go!
