Hey, you DVXers--and Rush:
I went to "streetprices.com" and found these crazy, low prices that make me both queasy and happy all at the same time. Can these be legitimate? 1.) A&M Photo World has a DVX100A for $2215, including shipping; 2.) Digital Liquidators' price is $2300 including shipping; 3.) Express Cameras.com is $2599 including shipping.
Why are they so cheap? Stop me before my greedy nature kills again!!!
Thanks, all.

Re: Too-good-to-be-true DVX prices?

Anyprice below $3000 is a scam.. you will not get a warranty, and have to pay for stuff that is normally in the box (i.e manual, charger, battery, etc.)

Re: Too-good-to-be-true DVX prices?

I've read about these scams online. They have NO intention of selling for that price. When you call, they give a hard sell for lots of overpriced extras. If you run up your tab high enough, you'll get it for the price they advertized, but becausse all that other stuff was overpriced, they recover their costs with a handsome profit. If you choose not to get those overpriced extras, they give you a hard time, hoping you'll give up. If you insist, they say, okay, but they're on backorder or "out of stock" then, expect weeks to go by, and when you call to check, they'll say still "out of stock." This will go on forever or until you give up and cancel your order.

Personally, I think we should have our state attorney general's office assist us in ordering this stuff. That's the only way we'd get it for that price, and believe me, that may be the only way to end the faulty advertized prices.

Re: Too-good-to-be-true DVX prices?

If it's one of those grey market import camera outfits out of New York City then run far away...

Re: Too-good-to-be-true DVX prices?

Believe me.. 5 weeks of sleepless nights waiting for my camcorder to ship and reversing charges on a card and fighting with some lil' bastard that thinks I wont drive to New York and slap him good over $3,000 isnt worth any amount of money, heartache or time.. Do yourself a favor and purchase from a reputable company. You can read here and find them.. The one that comes to mind is EVS online. wherein I just purchased my DVX100A from Rush or of course the ol' B&H.. EVS has better pricing though.. And the service was good.. My 2c

Re: Too-good-to-be-true DVX prices?

If you spend good money with those lowball hustlers instead of going with a reliable pro like Rush at EVS, you should be spending the "savings" on a psychiatrist.
When you step up to a 100A package, REAL customer service becomes a very valuable commodity.

Jan Crittenden, Product Line Business Manager DVCPRO50/25, DVX100A is contributing to a thread on Gray Market camera's over on 2-Pop in their DVX forum. I would read his comments concerning this topic.

I bought one from A&M Photo World. Here is how it works. These units are stripped of their serial # and a few accessories. Now you can buy the cam for the $2300 with no warranty if you want, even includes battery. Or you can purchase a 1 year warranty for $300 more dollars but you still do not get a serial. Or you can purchase a 3 year warranty for $700 more and you will get a different part # camera with serial #. I thought $3100 that’s about normal...but they get you on the shipping!

I bought one thinking... OK, I will just do my research on the company before I buy. Looked up at BBB and they had complaints but were all resolved satisfactorily but one. But there were hundreds of complaints… all resolved. Ok… they do a lot of sales so lets get one!

When I ordered I was on hold for a pretty long time but I finally got picked up after about 15 minutes. I told him I wanted a DVX100A and he asked me for my credit card #. Well I asked how much it was going to be before I gave it to him. He said he couldn't tell me until he had my card #. Hmmm. OK, I gave to him. He then told me the price and tried to up sell me on the warranty. I opted for no warranty. Shipping came out to $110! Wow! Ok it was still cheaper total price than anyone else $2410. Now the kid also told me it would be 3 to 4 weeks before I got my cam. I wasn't in any hurry so I said OK. Got my order # and waited.

4 WEEKS LATER…
Still no cam! Time to call and find out what’s up. I knew it had not shipped because I had not been charged on my credit card yet. I called and gave them my order #. I got put on hold. Then they told be they couldn't find my order and that my order # was missing a digit.... They could not even find me by my address. Well after being on the phone for about 1 solid hour. (I know because I was doing all this on my lunch break.) I decided to order another one. I talked to a new kid. This is where I started asking questions. He wanted my credit card # right away. I asked him what the price was first. He told me it was what ever the web page said… I told him I was not on the web to see. The price was now $2250, cool. I asked him how they could sell at that price and that’s when he told me that these were foreign units shipped in to Canada. They then strip the serial # off the cameras…. Hold it right there! Missing Serial? YES. How do I get it serviced? Oh panny wont touch it you would send it in to us. How do I tell if it is stolen? After this statement the kid got sassy with me saying that he did not want to sell to me. I told him that I guess he did not want my money and he said no! So I called him some rude things and hung up on him.

So moral of the story! If it sounds too good to be true IT IS!

I bought my camera from Inoax.com for $3100 with $25 shipping. Got it in 2 days. Fast! Noticed a few strange things! I got a panny 5400mah instead of 1600mah battery and a panny cleaning tape instead of a master tape and the manual was for a dvx100p instead of a dvx100ap. All other parts were normal and in attendance. The camera IS a dvx100a (stamped on side and has all 100a features). Meter reads 0 hours on cam. Serial number was there and perfectly legible. All worked great. Downloaded the correct manual and didn't complain to the company cause the battery upgrade was a substantial one. I love my 5400mah battery it rocks and lasts forever! The camera shoots beautiful pictures. Yes, I know I was stupid above and maybe still below but after all I went through I will never try to get camera gear at the cheapest price without asking a ton of questions and doing my homework. Be afraid be very afraid of A&M Photo World. They are not the only ones… I called a total of 11 camera places that had similar prices as A&M. They were all different scams…. Missing pieces. Sorry so long but hope it helps. :-[

For the record, (in the past) I received repackaged goods sold as new from them.  Missing parts, scratches, etc.  I won't be buying from TriState again.

Re: Too-good-to-be-true DVX prices?

I purchased my 100a last Thursday from Buydig.com for $3179(they have since raised it to $3299) and I wanted it overnight which cost me $79.  I had it the next day and it was brand new with everything.  Also, they sold me a 4 year extended warranty for $ 199 which turned out to be a Mack Warranty and a good one.  I have used Mack in the past on another camcorder and it was great.  In any case, I give them top marks on service.   :D dave

ps. I just updated after reading the other posts. I found about EVS and Rush after I purchased my 100a and found this site so I never had the opportunity to check EVS out.

Profeel.com has it for $3138 and they are a good outfit - good service and no hard sell. I've bought two digital still cameras and a three chip video camera from them and recommend them. However, their 4 year extended warranty is $299.
I just purchased my DVX100A from Rush at EVS because with the tax Profeel has to add to the order (I live in New York State) and the extra cost of the warranty (EVS has it for $169) combined with the dvxuser.com discount Rush gives members of this site, Profeel was more expensive. Besides, Rush has made himself approachable (although he's VERY busy) by frequenting this site.

Hi Chris, you can call me at 800-238-8480 or email me at rush@evsonline.com.

By the way, I just wanted to say thank you for all the support, to all DVXusers. It's amazing, how, in just a few months, I can't imagine coming into work without getting on this site to see what's up. ;D
