Tokina Cine lens line?!

I heard from the owner of Cheesycam.com that Tokina announced a line of cine lenses like Rokinon on the NAB show floor. For those at NAB, can you check out the booth and post some pics/info for us? I didn't get the chance to check it out.

I saw these today - snapped some pics... as soon as I have a chance I"ll post em up.
They looked and felt great... but they seemed pretty proud of them also (as reflected by their pricing).

what a progress LMAO- they actually regressed their lenses back to mechanical lenses only and charge arm and leg for these.
Only in our industry...
and I guarantee they will never be a stable as the real deal- I've built plenty of still conversions back in the day...

the 16-28 almost has me, but just not quite....

there really is no standard wide-normal zoom in town other than the red 17-50, and thats only PL mount

i've been waiting for someone to finally step in and make a decent proper cine zoom. if only tokina would bring back the 16-50 2.8 and cinevise that like they're doing with the 16-28 FF....

We are starting to see some real price barrier breakthroughs in Camera's from companies like Blackmagic....There is a very significant opportunity to acheive similar breakthroughs with cine style manual lenses. Smart strategy from tokina. Take their existing lens technology and rehouse the glass in a less complicated manual based housing. They could charge the same price as their auto lenses and probably produce them for cheaper, cornering a growing market segment and looking likeheroes in the process. Way to go Tokina!! Love to see some zoom style cine lenses from Tokina.

Did any of you catch the price of the 16-28? In the video it sounds like the rep is saying $5500, but that's just ridiculous...

^ that's someone who didn't watch the video :)

Prices mentioned in the video:
11-16: <$2000
16-28: $5500 (yes, ridiculous indeed)

Joe Marine said in the comments at nofilmschool that the 16-28 is a different optical formula from their stills 16-28. I won't believe it until they show me the two diagrams.

You'd think these lenses would be at least the same price since they're saving on all the internal electronics,
but I guess when they gouge, they gouge.

Well, it all depends on what market they're addressing, doesn't it? I'm a little puzzled by it, personally. I mean, if you are a big shot DP who can rent/own any lenses s/he pleases on their big productions, I don't see them running wild to get these Tokina ones. Meanwhile, if they are addressing themselves to the same crowd that got the whole DSLR craze started, then they've missed the clue-train pretty badly - the guy who buys a DSLR because it's cheaper and lets him shoot his low-no budget stuff with cheap still-photo lenses, is not going to pay 4 times as much for the cine version of the 11-16 - I mean, when a guy like that compares a still photo 11-16 at $500 to a cine version at $2000, what do you think he's gonna do?

But then again, I'm not in marketing, so what do I know (other than I would never in a million years buy the $2000 version given the paltry advantages over the $500 at 4 times the price). I'd maybe pay a $300 premium over the stills 11-16, but that's about the limit (for me)... $2000???? ha, ha, ha, yeah, no.

I agree with you OldCorpse.

I think the Rokinon Cine lenses are a good example of price point tolerance between the DSLR & Cine version. About a 33% price increase for a cine lens seems like a great deal for the budget conscious, IMHO.

agreed.
I cannot imagine who will be buying these.

Rokinon hit the sweet spot in regards to price/performance.

I nearly choked at the show when the rep said the 16-28 was 5500.

The 11-16 is nice for what it is but personally I find it's tendency towards flare to be extremely annoying and the quality of the flare is nasty. I still don't completely understand why these are so popular to rehouse as cine lenses. The price is actually much cheaper than the Duclos for instance. Though they make the housing PL.

And...16-28 is not a very useable range in my book. 5k??? Just buy a 24mm CP.2 and call it day.
