Today's quickie shoot

A friend is auditioning for a studio feature here in LA and asked for my help in shooting three quick scenes to try to close the deal on her landing the part.

Here are the scenes:

All the scenes were shoot with an HPX500 and one Coollights kino. The close-ups had a bounce board for fill and an inky hair light.

The video you see is straight out of the camera. No color timing was done.

God, I love that camera.

If anybody has constructive criticism, I please share as i'd appreciate learning how to shoot better.

Martin-

Your footage looks really good. I'm curious which scene file(s) you used. In the first two clips, the skin tone was beautiful. The dance scene, on the other hand, didn't seems to exhibit the same color depth. That could be due to the house lights.

Thanks. I'm not a DP, so am still in the baby steps of learning how to light.

The scene file is the generic Cinema D (I forgot the exact name). The only change I do is lower the pedestal to -6 to crush the blacks. What I found helps me is using a waveform monitor, like one built into the panasonic 8" on-camera monitor. I can put the peaks of her skin tone at 75%, and that seems to do the trick.

As for the second clip, you're right. It's the overhead flos which are creating the look. Lesson for me here is: even in a rush, get the color balance right.

Wow! Vanessa is beautiful, and Vanessa is talented. And yes, the 500 IS amazing for the price point.

Very nice, very nice, indeed.

What lens were you sporting?
