Toaster + MXF

I've a friend with the Newtek toaster and an HVX - working solely with SD - we can import MXF files onto the timeline and they play okay.

Trouble is, you can only drag the video and audio separately and not as a single clip, not knowing the toaster very well I can't find a way around this. You can link them but they unlink the minute you try to make an edit.

Anyone and experience with this?

(for the toaster to work with MXF files you appear to have to have snell+wilcoxs' MXF importer installed also.)

Toaster as in the VT4 PC Version or the Old Amiga version? Just wondering.
I'll ask a couple of friends of mine over at Newtek tommorow and see what they say about this.

We have the "toaster" now called VT 4.6. For the last year we have on a limited basis used .mxf files. We first used raylight, but it was too cumbersome of a workflow. We added the Snell/Wilcox codec and it helped but wasn't perfect as you have found.

I spent the last several months convincing NewTek to support our beloved DVCPro files. Being the customer first company that they are, they got it done, partly for the users on this forum. Imagine that!

We have moved to NewTek's SpeedEDIT recently and are much happier. Audio is automatically brought with the video. Mixing HD and SD files on the same timeline is as easy as using all the same type files.

If your friend wants to continue using DVCPro files, have him check out SpeedEDIT.

And if you ever call it "Toaster" again, you'll have your legs broken! :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)
It's come a long way since 1.0 just like every other system.
SpeedEDIT is so affordable you can't go wrong.

Check out the new VT5 for another revolutionary breakthrough in Virtual Set capabilities. NewTek has always made the impossible, possible.
