Hi, I'm a non-happy owner of a Lumix GH5, I shoot only in UHD, if I want to shoot in rec.2020 with my GH5, what should I do please? What is the easiest step to do? Thanks.

I think you're just not happy in general and switching to 6k photo mode and rec 2020 HLG will cause your head to explode, hehehehehe

Don't say I didn't warn you :)

I think you might like the colors better in regular 6K photo mode recording as it does the standard color profiles in h265 that has an aesthetic and color depth you might like better. The down side is you need a very powerful computer with the right software to edit clips filmed in this mode. Your workflow will become much more cumbersome/difficult.

Cheers, Pete

What do you mean with "6K photo mode"? is it not relegated to photography? What does this have to do with UHD video? I don't understand. I have a powerful PC with i9, NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 1080Ti and all SSDs.
Could you explain better please? I don't understand at all.

HLG is 10-bit on the GH5 which is not available when shooting 50P. If you want to test it drop your frame rate 25P.

Fox, read the manual.

Cary, I'm talking about actual color bit depth. Not the camera specification. I believe that 6K photo mode recording in 10bit 4.2.0 h265 encoding produces higher color bit depth than any other recording mode on the GH5 for a given ISO setting. I don't have the tools to prove this, but it's just my observation when doing side by side tests of all the recording modes besides V-log which I particularly dislike.

How about that for a personal opinion. YMMV obviously. If anyone has any actual testing to contradict this opinion, I might be swayed :)

Cheers,
Pete

Bit depth is the same at 10bit but the color subsampling is worse as it's 4.2.0 rather than 4.2.2.

Wut why everything I like it is not available at 50p? Everything is at 25p.

HLG is available in 50P for HD and for external recording for UHD. You need to choose . If HLG gives you what you want and you record 50P internally it will have to be HD. IF you want UHD 50P HLG you will need to record to something like the ATOMOS Ninja V. Works well but a lot more equipment for you to carry and I do not think that will work for you.

To get the full performance one should shoot in 10 bit and when this is taken into consideration then at UHD 50P it has to be external recording or shoot in HD. This is the stumbling block for Adriano. If he wants to shoot 10bit UHD 50P then it will need external recording. Doesn't matter then whether its V-Log or HLG with lots of reports preferring HLG. Both approaches require effort in editing.

Shoot V-Log. Use the ACES workflow in Resolve and set the Output Device Transform to Rec. 2020.

The results are nice!

But the color profile in Resolve is for V-LOG and the GH5 is V-LOG 'L'. This is why many people prefer HLG as the REC 2100 profile is clearly defined.

Sample of some GH5 6K photo mode videos:

[6K/4K Burst (S/S)]

6K/4K Burst S/S (Start/Stop) is suited for unpredictable scenes. Press the shutter button to start consecutive shooting, press again to stop.
