Tips for my workflow : p2->powerbook->firewire

Hello people. I just got an HVX and wanted some thoughts on my p2 workflow to be. I have a shoot next week so...

Here is my plan. 2 16gb p2 cards. When I get a moment I will offload through a powerbook PCMCIA slot to an external firewire drive set to RAID 1 or mirrored.

Any tips? Things I should look out for? precautions? Estimated time?

I would like to get p2 genie, but the sight says it isn't available for osx right now. Lame. Are there alternative programs out there?

I don't have Barry's book yet and the rebate isn't going to turn it around in time.

There are so many workflows out there, it was hard for me to sort through all the forum posts.

ive used p2 genie for osx. and as i recall. it worked ok - but i just never saw the big value in it.

1. shoot to one card until full
2. eject card
3. insert second card in camera
4. hand full card to assistant
5. continue shooting to new card
6. assistant inserts filled card in pcmcia slot.
7. create empty folder on the mac destination drive
8. drag all contents of card to that folder. (transfer time for full 16gig card about 18-20 min)
9. eject p2 card from laptop
10. put card back in camera when second card is filled
11. format card - continue shooting.
12. repeat process. repeat process. repeat process...
 
We show a bunch of advanced workflows on our DVD- which are Mac specific. It's a good companion piece to Barry's disc. I recommed a program such as P2 Log or P2 CMS for the copying and organization. Especially with complex projects. With Finder drag and drop you get no copy verification- once in a while this can bite you in the a.

the P2 genie doesn't work for the 16GB card. There are some compatitablity issues that need to be sorted out.
