Timelapse with RAW

I've created timelapses on the 7D shooting JPEG's. It's rather easy to put them together with Quicktime Pro.

Anybody ever do it with RAW?

The files seem to be non-compatible (or just too big?) for either Quicktime Pro or AE.

What's the secret?

Thnx!

i imagine there are a lot of ways to do it with raw, with a big enough CF card. photoshop can automate actions to convert to whatever file u want, or u can batch export them to DNG, and i believe a lot of programs take that, AE included. file sizes will get a lot bigger though.

I dont think QT will use raw..I think you will have to do a batch edit in like photo shot cs4 then save to jpeg..them use QT for the video.

raw gives you a lot of flexibility in exposure and color manipulation. you also have more options of doing HDR and other things too if u have the patience. You can automate your actions in photoshop and then export as TIFF files. it's lossless and you have all your control to make your timelapse look great. It's just about whether you have the patience for all those stills...

What controller are you guys using for time lapse sequences? Is one available that will let you bracket shutter speeds for HDR or is that a manual process?

You need a remtore timer.

Canon makes one called the RS-80N3.

I bought a no-name brand on ebay for $30 and it works fine.

After effects should handle raw image sequences just fine.

I've done quite a few in AE and nothing beats working in raw.

When I drag the file into AE, I get

"After Efects error: the file format module could not parse the file"

Any suggestions?

I'm using CS4 and I definitely remember an update a while back that was "camera raw" specific.

If you're on an older version, check around for a similar update.

But I put all my images into a folder, and then drag that folder into the work area. As soon as AE recognizes it, you'll get a window that has some basic CC options to apply to each raw image. Then just drag that folder into the timeline.

The folder will be interpreted as 'footage'. The default is 30fps so just be sure to go through the interpret footage process if you want something else.
