timecode/lines across screen

I filmed a short last weekend and imported the footage into final cut. FCP stopped a few times due to timecode breaks. I changed the user preference to let me know about time code breaks after capturing and was able to capture everything successfully. But now the footage is seriously dropping frames(I know it does in 24P) to the point that lines are coming across the screen like a bit of static. Looks terrible! I don't kwo whether to recapture or reshoot. Please help

Is your camera new?

I had a REALLY bad time with dropping frames/timecode through about 3 full tapes when I got my camera not too long ago. As it was explained to me, a brand new head isn't worn in and is more likely to cause flaking on the tape emulsion. I had to reshoot quite a bit.

I'd clean your heads, and just try again, making sure you use fresh tapes. That should help regardless.

No. My camera is not new. Had it for a year and have had timecode issues before, but the footage usually turned out well. I did do some panning which I know can look bad with frame drops, but this footage skips a lot.
I turned the camera on and off, but did not mess the with the timecode.

Try cleaning your heads if you haven't already.

It sounds like you've been just dealing with dropouts......I sure wouldn't.

My experience is limited though. Not much more I can offer but if it were me, I wouldn't stop until I had a solution. Tape formats are annoying enough. Malfunctioning tape formats make me want to kill things.
