Time to Give Up on D90/D5000 Firmware Update?

It seems there was some excitement middle of last year about a firmware update to control Shutter Speed and ISO for D90/D5000 video. Even some petitions to Nikon. Is it safe to say Nikon has forsaken us in this matter? Is it time to look to Canon or Panasonic for DSLR hybrids?

yesterday I sold all of my nikon gear, will buy canon 550d, maybe I will return if nikon has full manual control, 1080p, AF, etc.

I just bought the T2i. I still own the D90, but we'll see how long. After PMA's no show, I've decided to step away from Nikon for now. I hope to come back soon. We'll see, but I'm not holding my breath.

I don't think they will give a firmware update for manual controls for the D90/5000. The T2i is a very interesting camera and look forward to test clips and/or movies that will be shot with it. Can we use Nikon lenses on the T2i?(with an adapter)

I gave up recently. Though as a still camera its stellar as I have a photography background. The camera that started it all isn't loved by nikon anymore. I still love the video mode. And I have ZERO intention of switching to canon.

by the time i will get enough money to spend on a new dsrl, i just hope there will be a new nikon with all we want. for now im just playing with what i have, and i must say it still fun, even if u know lots people are playing with way better toys

Im just living with it as is. Ive produced some okay shorts with the d5000 and Ill just have to adapt to it as is. The ingredients to nice video are: Lots of light (real or artificial), Steady Shots, and pro res (to me it really makes a difference)

I gave up and got a GH1 to use with my nikon glasses JUST FOR VIDEO. I will still making "stills" with my D90 until nikon makes a DSLR that shoots video with full manual control. When this happens, I'll sell both cameras and buy the new one.

This is the direction that I will probably be heading.
Canon is absolutely dominating Nikon in video. It's sad.

Nikon has another press announcement March 8th.
I'm going to Robert's Camera in Indy this weekend. Going to "look" again. New rebates out with Nikon now. I haven't ruled out the D300s or the 7D. But the T2i is not on my list because I want better for photography side myself.

I sold all my nikon stuff about a month or two ago and got a 7D

Im wondering if i shoudl have waited for the cheaper T2i, but i kinda like the extra features of the 7D. (and i got it for pretty cheap, $1,400 for body, 50mm 1.8 and 16gb card)

I'm pretty sure the 7D is a lot better all around.

Funny, even though the D90 takes arguably all around better photos than the 550D/T2i, I actually like using my T2i alot more.

I'm selling my D90 because of it too (check my sig link).

The T2i has alot of the operational buttons on the right hand side, which means I have a spare hand for touching myself. Also having more megapixels, and that I shoot at ISO 100-400 exclusively with strobes means I never really get the benefit of the D90's higher iso performance anyway.

And manual control of video is nice :)

I already gave up on the firmware long ago even before John Park was kicked off from American Idol. I'm still keeping my D90 for photography and to pick up hot chicks.

I'm actually purchasing the Canon 7D. For it's quality you can't beat that price...Not enless it ends up at our local flea market. 2 7D for 5 dolla. Holla!

I'll be at Roberts camera today. Going to take a close look at the D300s and the main reason is photography.

Yeah, the petition I started only got about 400 signatures over 6 months. I moved on a long time ago, now prefer the pictures from the canons.

After 10 years of Nikon, today I joined the Canon shooters by purchasing a 7D. I loved my Nikons for photos, but am moving more toward video, and have been unable to get good video from the D90 or D5000. I too will be selling my Nikon gear.
