Time to Clean the A1s Heads?

I've just started running into some dropped frames during playback and during capturing with my A1. I can barely get a clip captured without a dropped frame. It has been driving me crazy.

So I figure since the camera has traveled a lot, it must be time to clean the heads....

Have any of you had experience with cleaning tapes in the A1?

How about Barry's method of cleaning the heads yourself? (search head cleaner)

Or is it still best to send it away to be cleaned?

i wouldnt trust myself to clean them properly without potentially damaging anything. id send it away unless u feel u have the skill necessary to do it.

also, its a shame we cant count the hours on the heads.. it would make predicting a needed cleaning much easier.

I had a guy clean the A1 and he said my alignment was a bit off. He fixed that but he also said "Wow....you guys must use this camera a lot, the RF envelops are showing wear"

What does that mean?! We have had it less than a year! We have used it quite a bit but I would not say anything out of the norm.

He said that this could mean having more issues with dropped frames and maybe replacing the heads sometime.

Is this normal?
