Time remaining with T2i / 550D - I don't see it

Hi guys,

does anyone who owns a T2i ( 550D ) see the time remaining on their SD card ? ... I don't, and it drives me nuts.

I was filming a concert yesterday, and had to guess when my card was full, once time removing the card when there was still 6 gb left, and another time the card filled up before I noticed, so I missed some action.

I do not see any "time remaining" as you see pictures remaining when you go to any of the picture modes.

Anyone notice this ?

It won't start counting down until you have less than 29:59 to fill up on the card. Even then, you won't see a running count until you start a new file. Hope this helps!

Also, you can hit the display button and toggle through how much info you have on the screen. Maybe this is what's happening?

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the info. I'm going to check that out.

I did notice the 29:59 yesterday, and wondered why it wasn't moving.

Ok, sounds good.

I don't get it though - kind of strange that Canon has decided to do this, when their SD line of cameras all show you exactly how much time is left. Perhaps in the next version of the camera, that will be fixed.

Doubt they will do a firmware fix for this, as it seems nobody has complained about it - I did a google search and couldn't find a single thing about this "problem"

Thanks again for your post, I appreciate people who go out of their way to help others.

Dave.

Kind of a workaround, but if you want to know how much space is left on the card, you can hit the menu button, toggle to the right to the seventh icon, the wrench, go down to format, hit the set button, and it will say 4.03 gb used, or whatever amount. Hit the set button again to cancel. Or hit the shutter button to take you back to live view. Maybe that's a little nerve-wracking to call up the format function with clips on the card, but as long as you don't actually format . . .

Or you can hit menu and then the display button. Does the same thing and you won't be anywhere near a screen where you can wipe out your footage.
