Time Lapse cinematography with the A1?

I need to get the sunrise tomorrow morning and was wondering what I needed to do to make this happen as a time lapse sequence.
I was thinking capturing 1 frame every 20-30 seconds.
What do I need to do?

If you can shoot tethered to a laptop Adobe OnLocation and Canon Console (there's a 14 day trial version) will let you shoot timelapse sequences.
HDV is limited to certain fps setting and MPEG2 because of GOP structure.

I did a test recently with my A1: http://www.mediafire.com/?4yvtjbn29nt
(3.8MB Quicktime .MP4, shot at 1 frame/sec)

20-30 sec/frame seems very low. Better to have more frames and speed up in post if necessary.

If you really want to capture one frame every 30 seconds switch to still mode - though I would recommend more like five frames per minute. Otherwise you can just run a whole tape through and speed up in post as jade mentioned.
