Tiffen Ultra Contrast Filters etc - do they work?

I'd love to see a filter test - if there is a specific look you want that a filter can provide, I'd much rather get it on camera. Yes, you can really push DSLR footage around in post, but it will break eventually - the less shoving pixel values around, the better.
