Hey guys,

This was my first project for my production class and if you'd be kind enough to leave constructive feedback I'd be really encouraged by that. I'm not trying to bloat my ego because this video obviously isn't perfect, but I'd like to hear what I did wrong...nicely if that's possible. haha.

I'm not going to defend myself with a 15 part preface, so I'll just let you view.

Thanks guys!

p.s. Oh! and the project was a 2 minute short, all in one take. no cuts, and only 1 track of audio.

well, it didn't really tell much of a story. They both had coffee, went outside for a smoke and talked, then walked away. Don't see what the point of the film was?

Hey man,

Thank you sincerely for the honest response. I would hate a bubbly "nicely done". My response:

On one hand, out of perhaps unwarranted pride, I feel like there definitely is a story. I know what's happening in the shot for me, but I think it's up to the viewer. I've been told that meaning arises upon viewing, not creation. Which is pretentious and awful, and is easier to believe in when creating than it is when viewing, but I lived by that in this film. sorry. haha.

On the other hand, your opinion that this story is not a story at all, is my fault. I need to find a way to balance making personal films and accessible, cohesive, understandable films. I understand that this is on a completely different level of ambiguity, and I think I'll to abandon this way of storytelling.

Thank you, it's genuinely helpful.

hey william. thanks for letting me know about that. I updated the original post with a link. thanks again sir.

To me it's what i would call a silent film, you don't actually have to hear what their saying to understand something about the film. What i got from it was they sat next to each other, she goes outside to wait for a ride, and a minute later he also goes out. He ask the a stranger for a light to light his smoke then has a quick chat, and he steals her lighter if no one noticed hahaha. Then he walks away and by the way she looked at him it was kindof that look like that guy was "cute" or i "liked" that guy. Personally i thought it was a nice reproduction of everyday events! Thanks for sharing.

No, no, thanks for understanding! I'm sure it's annoying to see all these ambiguous youtube videos but you definitely understood my intentions. more than anyone else...and he definitely stole the lighter :)

*shrugs*

Guess I don't get it. I prefer a little story in movies.

Your whip pan had a lot of jello. I would have avoided that move.
