SHORT: Three - A short film to test the Canon 550D/T2i

Rather than do the usual tests involving shallow depth of field and flowers, we decided to test my new camera by making a short film.

Written & shot in one day using the Canon 550D with kit 18-55mm lens.

So what did we learn?

The camera is excellent and there is no reason to doubt it's capabilities, even with the rather slow kit lens, we were able to get some nice shots with only natural lighting.
Rolling shutter is rather harsh, so that limits what can be done.
Sound needs syncing slightly with the video when using an external mic.

Hope you guys like it!

That was pretty cool! I like it. I don't quite understand it (what was he looking for in the first place?) but it was a cool film. I enjoyed it. The "Can't think of anything to go here" at the end was funny, but if you ever broadcast that on TV (Public-Access channels are great for that kind of thing) Maybe remove or censor the "poo pooing" every five seconds. Overall, it's a good film. Keep it up.

...OK, I didn't actually write "poo-pooing" - I suppose DVXuser censored it. You know what I mean, right?

Thanks for checking it out & the feedback!

He was looking for, in a dramatic way, the sugar. lol Just wanted to make something frantic and put the camera through it's paces.

Glad you enjoyed it!

Editing is great. Shots are okay; could have used a few wider shots, the whole thing feels a little intimate, and much of it appears more blown out than needed. Audio is great, even if the teabags sound a little gross. Story was a little lacking: I would have liked to have known who they were to eachother, and what he was searching for. Was it the sugar?

Overall, it felt professional and well put together.

Wicked man wicked!

Beware those rough vauxhall drivers who pussy out with 3 sugars. LOL

very cool. If that was your 'test' film I would hate to go up against you in a short film competition.

Very impressive. Booyakahsha

Thanks, yeah the story was lacking as we thought of it in 10 minutes, was only to shoot something and put the camera in a real shooting situation rather than a few different shots. Just wanted to get a feel for the camera and find it's strengths and weaknesses.

Thanks again for the positive feedback!

My friend has done an edit with less harsh colour grading, this might give some of you an idea of how it looked before i attacked it! lol

Literally just saw the other version of this on youtube.

I have to say I much prefer this look to the other. But I way prefer the music in the other version.

Good job guys overall guys.

lol, care to elaborate?

I'm happy that you also use direct sound of dialogues, sound of searching (moving boxes etc...).

But I do sound design....if you're interested... but I'm not a composer.

Actualy... soundpostproduction only exists out of 10-20 people... (for big budget featurers)

And I like your idea of putting credits on walls and floors etc... But I'm afraid 99,9999999999% of the viewers wont notice....
