Thoughts on the kit lens?

Hi guys, I have an FS700 on order with the kit 18-200mm Sony E Mount lens. Anyone have anything good/bad to say about this lens?

Thanks,

Steve

The IS is great, The focus ring sucks, The range is great, The AF (at least on the fs100) is OK, The apeture is not fast but then again, it is an 18-200 so you got what you get....Overall, I'm glad I got them for both of mine. (and would suggest you get one too.) ( and I use them a lot more than I thought I would)

Also, if you're looking for primes, I might even be so bold as to suggest the rokinon 85 and 35. Both cheap (price wise) and what I call awesome buys for the price. Sturdy, quality and great image.

Everything Chris said.

I'm very critical of the FS100 but the kit lens is one thing I love about this camera--particularly for the stabilization and the range.

Sometimes a client needs to get the shot, not fuss over technical perfection while the shot is lost forever. This lens is good for that.

No, I mostly use primes these days with FS, that is the sweet spot for it, for me. I just got that zoom for clients when shooting b-roll needing quick reacts.
For broadcast I still use bigboy cams, XDs or F950 with whatever zoom.
