So...$21,000 for what looks to be a 3D HPX-170.

The site seems a little vague about the recording format, only that it's "Full HD" which could either just mean 1080p or uncompressed.

The most interesting thing here is that the camera does not use P2, it uses SD/SDHC, and has a "file based" recording system that claims to not require transcoding.

What codec and package is this thing using? Can we expect to see it in other broadcast cameras? Why SDHC? Is it up to the task of recording these images? I thought we needed P2 for a reason!

i dont think 3d is going to catch on for day to day delivery. features, games and maybe novelty industrials... i just dont think joe-average-consumer is going to tolerate having to wear 3D glasses to watch TV. ESPECIALLY those who already have to wear glasses to see.

Oh no doubt, I hate 3D as anything more than an occasional curiosity.

I am mainly just wondering what the heck is the deal with the recording format for this particular camera. SDHC? Seems like if we need P2 for these cameras now then why shouldn't we for a version that shoots theoretically twice the data, and claims to not use something like AVCHD.
