Thoughts on FS700 in 2016

What's stopping you? Shogun Inferno is down to $1295 new so you could easily pick up a camera/recorder combo for under $4000.

Well because my ratio of work is probably 90/10 when it comes to sound vs camera, so for now I'm quite happy with my Sony F3 / Samurai Blade + BMPCC for now, so all my spare investment money is going into sound gear instead.

So now need to upgrade from my very capable F3/BMPCC. But if that ratio was to shift back towards 50/50 then it would make sense to get something better, and FS700 would be a top choice (unless I went "big" and splurged out on a Kinefinity Terra / C500 / URSA Mini / FS7 / F5 instead).

Wow! Great deal! Congrats!

Yeah, at that price point you are getting great value!

EDIT: oh wait, is that $1,500? Still a good deal, though. At first I was thinking you got one for $500?

Sorry, I was typing that on my phone, and didn't realize it was a "!" and not a "1". Yes, I paid $1500 for it. :D

If I had managed to score it for $500, I'd have probably needed new underwear. LOL.

I managed to track down a company in Poland that appeared to have the LAST Wooden Camera Top plate available possibly anywhere. It should be arriving today. I just need to pick up a few 850 Pro drives so I can shoot 4k RAW. I've not managed to figure out that workflow yet, unfortunately.

Adorama still has new ones (body only) but B&H has been out for a while

Fortunately, I was lucky enough to snag one a while ago. I can't wait to see what I can do shooting 2k/4k RAW with it. I'm shooting a short in Jan/Feb that I'll be shooting in RAW, so the guy is buying me a few 850 pro SSDs that can handle RAW. :D

Thanks, ya'll.

Those steadicam night exteriors were shot 4K RAW, with a Nikon AIS 24mm F2.8 through a speedbooster...lens was wide open.

No de-noise was necessary. I run the FS700/O7Q RAW footage through an ACES pipeline, and it handles it pretty well. I find that the RAW signal is quite clean.

nice. Could you describe your workflow using ACES? I haven't made that move yet, but I've read a lot of good things about moving in that direction...

I have had good results using both Slog2 IDT, as well as SonyRAW IDT. I usually will use SRGB ODT. I also will make most primary adjustments from the RAW settings panel. I can't speak as to what the official best practices are FS700 ACES workflow, since it wasn't design for that camera, but I have been liking my results.

But I mostly use ACES when shooting RAW.

I love the colour here boosh, did you edit that and colour or have someone do it? if you did it pls share some of your workflow.

I'll also include my last project which I had a b-cam shooter use an a7s. I think you guys will easily see for the most part which is what, but any viewer wouldn't make a distinction. I'm showing this because I do think there is something very filmic and magical about the 700 which is why I bought it in the first place, and many other camera's dont have "it"
