Thoughts on a Battery grip?

can't wait for the off-brand grip. Its such a pain to change batteries. This will be a life-saver. That is really my biggest complaint when using the T2i for serious work. I have to disassemble my whole damned rig when i have to change batteries, its only a minute or two to do but it just takes you out of your zone and is distracting.

Almost worth the full price, but it seems the off-brand ones are coming out now. :)

Nevermind, just ordered one: http://cgi.ebay.com/BP-550D-Grip-Ca..._Photographic_Accessories&hash=item4cef36d687

The battery grip is great and *seriously* consider the non-canon version. It's basically the same thing and it will cost you about 50% less!

I picked up the Zeikos ZE-CBG7D for under $100 and it's been great.

Glad to hear! I've always bought Canon grips (for 30D and 10D) and was thinking of giving this one a try. I hear it's not weather resistant - any issues with that?

No issues to date. I've done two shoots in Lake Tahoe using the battery grip. One was for a slope-style comp and another was an overnight timelapse in the snow. Grip and camera still works.. ;-)

How do you get the battery top off the 7D so you can insert the grip?

Don't want to break it.

Thnx.

What about on the t2i????
No switch, it simply take it off of the hinges.

I got my Grip yesterday, makes the camera feel and look amazing. The only problem is the price ( $159) :(

I went ahead and ordered the 3rd party Hong Kong version for $70. I don't care if it's of less quality as I will be saving over $80 which I can use for something else. :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

T2i/550D Phottix BP-550d

Would have liked to have seen that 4+ days ago. I am seriously thinking baout returning my order to adorama and waiting the 2-3 weeks for this grip and saving at least $60.

Honestly they look the same

My Aftermarket Phottix Battery Grip for my T2i looks exactly the same as the OEM Canon BG-E8. Mine does not have that additional finger groove as pictured in the auction, it is flat like the Canon original.

It works great, note that you can use 1 or 2 LP-E8 batteries, or 6 AA Rechargables. If you use 2 LP-E8 batteries, the grip draws from both at the same time, and therefore puts less strain on the batteries. I tested 6 "AA" 2000mAh Ni-MH batteries and they lasted slightly longer than my OEM Canon LP-E6, I have read that Alkalines do not last more than a few dozen still pictures, so I have not tried them.

The cheap chinese LP-E8 batteries I bought of ebay work fine too. The ones I have are listed as 7.4V 1200 mAh batteries. They have slightly shorter capacity than the OEM Canon ones, but when I bought 5 for less than $30. I'm fine with swapping them out.

The items batteries from HK took a while to get, almost a month.

The battery grip was paid May 18th, was shipped on May 25th, and was delivered June 1st.

The grip adds needed weight and grip real estate for when hand holding a long telephoto zoom.

The batteries removed from the T2i body and placed in the gripframe allows slight longer continuous recording time, as heat from the battery does not add to the heat emitted from the sensor. My T2i did display a temperature warning indicator after approximately 90 minutes of continuous recording in 1080p.

I did multiple tests to learn how hard I could push my camera during a commercial shoot. Most of my work does not record continously for hours on end, so I believe the T2i is more than capable of handleing commercial jobs.
