THOR The Movie

I like it.

I think it works much better than the Green Lantern trailer because it's not really an origin story. It's sort of the reverse of that. Thor is already Thor. But he's stripped of his powers and made human.

Almost 100 million overseas already...it's going to be a MONSTER of a movie I think. Reviews as previously stated are stellar. I'm surprised and looking forward to it!

Ha ha, for once the other side of the world gets this first! Suckers!

Saw it, liked it. Was a fun movie and well made. It could have went for another 30 minutes for all I cared.

Chris Hemsworth is definitely a star , his aussie accent only came through on two lines that I noticed. He really looked the part.

Check it out, you won't be dissapointed.

Rotten tomatoes scoring system looks hopeless. Critic rating averages 6.8/10 but it's gets a 94%, so the score only goes on a thumbs up or down?

Having watched the film, I thought it was great. The Jokes were genuinely funny, and there were moments of tension that was very emotionally powerful (I better not spoil how!). One of them was Chris Hemsworth's Character learning humility (As seen in the trailer) and wow was it powerful.

I have to say though, I'm not exactly a big fan of Kenneth Branargh's use dutch angles. It felt wayyyyyy overused. However, I really liked the way he tried to 'God-i-fy' Thor and all through some hefty juxtaposition in set design and language.

Oh, and the second act with Earth really felt half-empty. Yes, it felt like it dragged too long. At the same time, it felt like 48 hours was too short a period for him to learn his lesson. But without a doubt, this is one great super hero movie with a touching ending. Now bring on the Avengers!

I didn't like the dutch angle usage either, and I remember thinking that while the movie was playing - something that shouldn't ever be happening in an audience member's mind (even if the audience member is a DP). But it was certainly by design. I thought about it quite a bit, and I think what he was trying to do was establish that the human world as foreign to Thor. Obviously Thor is from a different realm entirely, and I don't believe any dutch angles were used in the scenes in Asgard or in Hoenheimm. Still though, too much. And man do I love Natalie Portman.

I thought it was good and enjoyed it... Though I like my fantasy with more grit and grime.
Performances were solid. Character arc was nice and the Story "worked"... but it still also underwhelmed in it's scale for mine. Too myopic and nothing Epic about it.
Jump from tiny town, up the rainbow path to CG eye candy land, and into, for mine, completely non immersive superficial CG worlds. You could have just keyed them into some random Jedi training hall for mine and it wouldn't have changed squat... I much prefer the gritty Ridley Scott approach - a true builder of worlds. Where I always feel like I can taste and smell the salt, sweat, dirt and blood....

But each to their own of course...

I didn't care for it. I agree with Whoiscalvin about the second act dragging on, and then there not being enough time unfolding over the course of the film.

SPOILERS!
I also expected a big fight at the end between Thor and the Frost Giant guys. The whole thing kind of built up to nothing big really happening. His friends didn't put up much of a fight against that face laser robot either. Some of them didn't fight at all. They each showed a little bit of individual fighting characteristics at the beginning, and then they didn't use any of that in the second act when it was perfectly set up for it. I wished for a lot more out of the action sequences. Why was SHIELD even in this movie? It was only a tie-in to the other Avengers films and didn't really add anything to Thor at all. The movie really would have been exactly the same without them. All they did was slow down the second act and leave a little room for one fight sequence. All the CGI environments looked bad. And any movie that makes Natalie Portman look like a bad actress is not something I'm a fan of. Her character was pretty poorly written, along with a few of the others. She's a physicist for years and years, and suddenly she jumps at the possibility of magic?

Fast Five gets 78%? Thor gets 80%? With all of these terrible ratings going around, Transformers 3 is going end up winning an Academy Award

I didn't care for it either. I prefer more grit and grime...I thought this was a little too kiddy and over the top. I mean I get that its a comic, but does it have to be made for 8yr olds? Agreed on all points dust'n the callipygous.

That's what happens when you don't come up with an original story or character. Good thing Stan got better with age.

:)

I really enjoyed "Thor."

I think the romance could have used a bit more development and that Sif & The Warriors Three could have had a bit more to do, but overall, I thought it was really well done.

I thought that the story between Thor, Loki, and Odin was the most interesting part of the film.
