THoff,
I'm VERY new at metadata. I'd like to create a customized set of metadata files
for my upcoming trip to the Galapagos Islands next week. What's the step-by-step for creating, copying and saving to SD card for HVX? I tried creating my own
in P2 Viewer, but Viewer won't work when my multi-format card reader (and SD card) are in USB port.

I'm not experienced enough at computer stuff to easily
grasp the workflow that you've mastered long ago. I've even read the full article
by Barry. Can read it, sort of understand it, but can't apply it
in practice.

My basic metadata file is simply: "Galapagos Doc Shot" and I'm trying to create
a huge number of files that will simply work sequentially for each shot. No scenes and takes. Just shots. Please help this clueless metadata newbie...Thanks in advance for your expertise...

You can save the metadata files to your hard drive using "Save As" instead of "Save to SD Card", quit P2 Viewer, plug in your card reader, and then copy the files from the hard drive to the SD card.

The metadata files need to go in the same location as your scene files and user files, which is the \PRIVATE\MEIGROUP\PAVCN\SBG\P2SD directory on the SD card.

For what you are trying to do, you only need one metadata file that sets the User Clip Name to "Shot ", to which the camera will append an incrementing number. Once you load that metadata file and reset the counter, you'll get user clip names named "Shot 0001" and so forth. Please note that there is a space at the end of the User Clip Name property -- if you don't have that, the numeric value appended by the camera will be smack up against the word "Shot".

Let me know if you have any other questions.

You're welcome. Props to Barry for writing the article that unravelled the mysteries of the User Clip Name Type 1 vs. Type 2.

Have a good trip and stay safe!
