I find THM files on my 7D compact flash card every time I record a .MOV file. What are they? Are they important? Do I need to archive them?

And while I'm at it, why does Radio Shack keep asking for my phone number? These questions keep me up at night. ;)

.thm files are thumbnails.

If you want to look at them on your computer, change the file extension to .jpg.

They contain some EXIF info that might be useful when you test shots at various settings.

Otherwise you're probably safe if you don't archive them.

Radio Shack is wanting to see what areas of the country come and visit their stores and they track that by phone number. However, now that ppl can keep their phone numbers and take them with them, Radio Shack is now antiquated collecting your California phone number and thinking that a visitor from California came in yet you live two blocks away. OK, so maybe it's 5 blocks.
