This vs. Thick?

Hello, today a friend says to me "thin= about 500 horizontal lines resolution", "thick = about 400 horizontal lines resolution"
Is that true?

When we must use thin / thick?
Where´s the main difference between both?

Thanks!

Re: This vs. Thick?

Use thin if you’re anticipating going to film out or uprezzing to hi-def.

Use thick if you’re planning to stay on normal TV (on DVD, for example).

Because if you shoot thin and play back on a regular TV, you'll get a lot of flicker around any pattern involving thin lines. Thick, though tossing aside a little resolution, will smooth that out.

Re: This vs. Thick?

Depends on what you want to do. I would say always shoot THIN and then blur the footage slightly if it needs it for TV playback.

How much do you blur it?

Re: This vs. Thick?

what a weird thread. It sounds like a conversation between two people when infact it is a conversation between 7. Huh.
You just want to blur it a little bit. Use a gausian blur at about .1, just enough to blur each pixel with it's vertical cousin.

Re: This vs. Thick?

I've used .001 before (in Vegas). Even then I think it's a bit too much. Use the "reduce interlace flicker" option instead.

Re: This vs. Thick?

Yeah, sorry about that. I knew i wanted the lowest blur possible, I just didn't check with vegas first. you can actually apply the gausian blur with a setting of 0 and it will still slightly blur the footage, but yes barry is right, the reduce interlace flicker option is probably better.

Re: This vs. Thick?

Someone knows how could I add gaussian blur on my footage with Ulead Media Studio Pro?
