This look legit?

um yeah - check out their seller reviews online.
I bought an hvx through one of these sketchy companies last year - Rainbow Tronics. They were the only ones that had it and everyone else said they were backordered for months. I asked the guys there 12 times if it was grey goods and they assured me it was not. I paid $5700 at the time (the camera had just coome out). when i got it panasonic wouldnt honor the rebate - it was grey goods, damn bastards. The camera is fine - just wish I hadnt paid full price for a grey market camera!

AH HA! omg, I wouldn't buy drugs from that store front! (jk)

Thanks for the search reults. I'm not looking for a DVX but I suppose I could find the HVX200 there as well. I'll check 'em out.

I've also seen a "user rebate" mentioned on some of the threads. I did a little search but couln't seem to find out exactly what that's about an/or how you use it.

(Sorry, I know this question must have been asked before).

Quote of the year.
They should put THAT on their website.

My only point in posting those links was to show you other instances of people on the boards who thought about ordering from AMPhotoworld, and were also told it was a bad idea (regardless of the camera). That's all.

If you're referring to the rebates that Panasonic offers, that's one of the biggest reasons to make sure you buy from an authorized dealer. They won't give you the rebates if it was purchased from an unauthorized dealer.

Check out the current rebates on the HVX here

And if you're looking for an HVX - I can't recommend Spec-Comm enough.
May not be the cheapest - but they will make sure you're taken care of begining to end.
Free ground shipping and a free battery thrown in as well.

yes, yes it Should Dave. Unfortunately, I am purchasing this camera myself, and for me, that's a decent chunk of change.

So, I'm just surveying all my options.

In the end, it is very likely that I will buy from an authorized dealer.

I understand everything you have said.

But the point everybody is making is that unless you buy Panasonic authorized, it will be a chunk of heartache.

Good luck

Worth it for the piece of mind.... Just my opinion... but, you're right. It is a decent chunk of change. Which is why you shouldn't take any chances. Get it from an authorized dealer from the list in the where to buy thread. Why? Because, that's a decent chunk of change... that's why :) Warranty is another reason. Something goes wrong with your camera in the first year (god forbid)... well you are gonna wish you bought from an authorized dealer... And of course, rebates... I believe the most recent was a free 16gig p2 card... worth the 1k difference right there.

Later,
Jason

I'll second the 'warranty' concern.

Of course you never hope something goes wrong with your camera..but by the same token I don't hope my house burns down (yet I have fire insurance).
I never thought I'd have to use the warranty...then recently discovered a strange red cast on my footage. From the looks of it, my CCD block is misaligned, or something else MAJOR is going on. I'm about the ship the camera to Panasonic, and it should all be covered by the warranty.

If I'd tried to save some money when I bought it... well... you know the rest of that sentence.

You guys have been an incredible source of guidance. Thank you much.

I'll definitely buy from an authorized dealer now
