Had you said, this one scene needs to be tightened up, or the humor wasn't my style, that would have been a little more polite.

I don't expect eveybody to love this work, but it's out there to entertain, not to invoke a negative response.

Hey pimp, I've just seen the trailer, and to be drop dead honest with you, this ain't the funniest thing i've seen in my whole life amen. But that being said it wasn't the worst either. There were a few funny moments, and i recognised the humor shine through. I echo some of the comments that the trailer could be tightened a tad - ie some cuts could have been shortened, etc. However you seem to be taking an overtly hostile stance against any critics. I believe that if someone is to post their work on a forum for all to see, they leave it open for criticism.

Draccan's comments weren't negative, they just weren't positive. I believe that he had very tactfully phrased his reply so as not to sound condescending in any way. I mean he could have said - OMFG YOUR MOVIE IS TEH LOUSY STUFF I CAN MAKE BETTER STUFF WITH MY EYES CLOSED COZ I PWN JOO. But he didn't. He expressed his opnion, and has every right to, especially in a public forum like this. I'd love it if people gave honest comments like that for any work that i'd post online, as it'll also help me improve it, etc. After all we're all here on this forum to learn, rather than to call each other newbies.

So don't get too riled up with any comments be it positive or negative, mate.

the only part i laughed at was "will you go to lunch?".
that whole scene actually was pretty funny to me.
i didn't like the "you're getting marreid?" scene at all, loose editing and poor acting in my opinion.

You have to understand something defending your movie is not a crime, in the proffesional world, it's all right if you come into defense of your work, but again this is a forum that is intented to leave all sort of comments, and yes also you have to realize that alot of people in here they are just starting into the bussiness they are not preffesionals, they will love your stuff as if there where no tomorrow, and you want to know why?
Because they never saw anything like that made with the camera they just Bought and they are learning with

Now from alll the other people that gave their opinion in a negative and polite way, dont bash them saying stuff like "go back to your stupid country and shoot a movie"
They are giving their opinion and believe me somebody that comes from LA and is over shadow by hollywood wannabes, I would pay attention.
Now I'm not saying that Hollywood or anybody that come's from there dosen't deliver, they do but is surround by a lot of crap and crap makers
This guys are just saying their peace that's all

Now with that said...
I saw your trailer I didn't find it funny most of the time, they where moments ,yes, but most of the comedy it didn't get to me, there is cliche's beign played all the time, the shoots are stage/frame in a really amateur way ( some of them they look alright), it looks like is frame , it dosent look natural, the acting and the dialogue is is pretty stage and sound a little stupid, but maybe in the whole thing will flow better
the only part that it look natural is when the guy in the end delivers the line about the his mother don't letting him hang out with white guys, even is well know paraphrase , it was funny
Also the part about the dinner with the girl and the cup spill I taught that was really natural, as well the part with the mother in bed that was great, it reach me,
And i think some of the people in here don't know how to express themselfs, but
what they mean is they want the movie to reach them, to fell atach or related to it, like that great independent LA comedy/drama Swingers.

But again this seems to be your first project, big project, if you are filmmaker, well my friend this is only the beignning, and you made amovie , a feature
that's a good start, and believe me I want to see the whole thing, maybe I get more of the jokes and the drama of the story

now for the colors, light, textures and all that, Hey man that's you choice as a director , in that I agree you shouldn't take crap from anybody on that.
Again my film brother this is to help you to grow as a filmmaker, as a director

I'm a guy with a lot of expirience, young, but succesfull, and I started just like you with a dream and great passion

Keep it up, but remember, to be respectfull to even those that they arent to you, ****'em, the most important part here is that you have amovie you got a lot of responses you made to a lot of festivals, and as a first attemp you are already in IMDB.

i watched the trailer, it was ok. as most of the people have said, you need to trim it. even have some jump cuts if you want, but if the actor fails at the comic timings, then the editor has to make adjustment. you can just zoom a shot a bit in edit, the quality won't go down a lot, but loosing a comic punch is worse.

overall its quite a decent effort, and once again, criticizing is quite easy, but actually making something is extremely hard.

hats off to you for that
 
I tightened it up a bit and pulled a few dead frames out...

You gotta remember that filmmakers have much quicker and sharper eyes than the average movie goer. I've seen alot of trailers and I do notice that they are all very very fast and choppy. They are almost all starting to "look alike" if you know what I mean. Same multi images then followed by an intense series of images to fast to recognize... you know the types.

This might still be a little slow to some, but I think it gets the message across as a Indy film with heart and soul.

Just saw the trailer/website for the first time.

As a web designer, I nearly passed out. I'm sure you can easily find a really cheap designer in your area who can really hook up your site. Presentation is essential, man. I'm not going to lie, I saw the site and instantly had a negative reaction. The first thing I should have seen was the trailer, but I was bombarded with film festival this and that. It felt unnecessary because every time I research a new indie flick, they find it necessary to plaster their website with a million film festival symbols like they won at Sundance. I'm not just trying to be a jerk, I am giving you my honest thoughts. I would hope that everyone would do the same for me when I pour my life into my first feature.

I do comedy too, and it wasn't really my style. I have more of an outrageous/nonsensical comedic preference, I suppose. The overall delivery of the trailer was ok. It kept me watching. I agree with about 99% of the other guys who say it really needs to be tightened up. Titles could have used some work. Head over to apple.com's Quicktime movie trailer section and watch some comedy trailers. There is absolutely a formula and it's not going to be broken any time soon. The actors seemed like they were really cool guys. I agree that the best line was the Nintendo one... nothing else was very memorable for me. Sounded pretty great. Cameras were alright. Were you DP? I liked the out-of-the-door car shot. A lot of it seemed too wide for me. I would love to see how it looks with color correction applied.

Again, this is just a critique from one comedian to another. I'm just expressing my honest, real world thoughts. I know for a fact that my work isn't anywhere near perfect, but I can say that I have learned a lot from other guys on this forum. Let us know when the DVD is out. I'd love to see the final product.

Well, when you do make your first film festival, you'll know why us filmmakers "plaster" it all over the site. The average film festival now receives well over 1000 feature films and screens only 30 to 50. The L.A. fests and medium size fests receive close to 2000 features and screen 50 to 80. It is a major accomplishment getting a feature into a fest without a "B" list star in it.

I do agree the web site is weak, (I posted it up for free myself) but it's not being used to market the film to the public. It's just a quicky to see the trailer and let the other fests know we've screened in a few this year.

Anybody in L.A. wanna build a cheap website? Hit me back....

The trailer is what it is. The movie is much better than the vibe the trailer gives off. When we go to distribution, the new owners will cut a new trailer. I'm not worried about it. They'll color correct it, sound mix it, put it in a fancy box and throw a bow on it and ship if off to Germany with subtitles.

As long as the audiences at the festivals love it (which they do) my job is done.

On to the next one.....

p.s. I saw your clips on your site... I think you were a little harsh with your over analysis of our work. Anything anybody makes in this world can be dumped on. It's all speculative. Funny to one person, isn't to another. I always leave it up to an audience. I know as a rule of thumb that filmmakers (myself included) make the very worst critics. I'd prefer a guy off the street watch my work instead of a filmmaker. There is an audience for every film out there. Good and bad. Finding the audience is the real trick.
