Hey Guys,

Here is my latest short titled This Could Be Your Last Ride

It had a pretty good run on Vimeo and was uploaded to Break as well, and I'm looking for some constructive criticism/feedback on the piece.

People who ride motorcycles were, for the most part, very happy with the short, but I never really received any feedback from a filmmaker's standpoint so I was hoping to get that here.

Let me know what you guys think.

I like the pacing, and the story is intriguing.

The interview just seems really, really dark... underexposed, and blueish. There are color balance issues throughout the b-roll as well, like mixed light temperatures and not a good white-balance or color correction to work around it. Also, the every-shot-is-shallow-DOF look gets a little tiring as the focal plane is so narrow that the subject simply doesn't stay there. Plenty of shots look like they'd be spot-on if not for being so blurry. And, again, dark... to the point of losing much of the detail and information.

The mood you seem to be going for makes sense, but lighting for proper exposure but with contrast can give plenty to work with in post for pulling out the somber tone.

This is stronger than most of what gets posted, and I think the fact that Alex hit you on the finer points is a credit to the film overall. I've been riding for the last two years and thought you hit the mark. Normally I despise sentimental/message pieces, but you didn't overdo it. Nice job.
