I needed an extra battery for my Japan trip in couple of weeks. My plan is to buy a Panasonic battery there, but I won't be a major city for the first week. Although I am pleasantly surprised by how long the OEM battery lasts, I needed a backup battery. I got a third party battery off of Ebay from DSTE for $17.13 including shipping from Hong Kong. I was surprised that it shows the charge level. Third party batteries for my GH2 didn't show charge levels. Be careful of third party batteries, I heard that they can fail suddenly. Definitely never use them while updating your firmware.
