Third Lense

I'd have to vote for the 24-105... It's a versatile lens and on a mark III I don't miss the extra stop of light at all compared my 2.8 lenses on a 60D - or even a mark II.

Without knowing what you shoot, it's hard not to recommend an all-purpose lens when you don't already have one. This well get you a good wide-angle (not uniquely wide like a 14mm, but conveniently wide), and IS through most of the common focal lengths. Very handy to have in the kit!

tonnes! I use it all the time and hate it at the same time. Nice range (24-105), IS, fast enough (f4) but man is the geometry off.

The thing that really made my jaw drop was editing some elses photos (raw files) taken with the 24-105. I opened it up in camera raw and enabled the lens profile correction....It was like a different picture. I double checked that I used the correct lens profile and sure enough that lens need a lot of correction!

At least with raw you can take it through lens correction but its an extra long step that a prime wouldn't need.

Depending what prime we are talking about. I don't think there's a single Canon prime that doesn't' have a profile in ACR. Even the Otus has ever so slight barrel distortion.

Of course, there's no such thing as an optically perfect lens. Even the Canon 300 2.8L II can benefit from a correction profile. The more the profile has to correct the softer your image is going to be. If your shooting regualr video and the camera doesn't have the correction built in, then fixing that in post is a pain.

Sigma just released their 24-105 f4 Art lens. It is a significant improvement over the Canon version and is $250 cheaper:

DXO Comparison:

Both seem to have distortion but the sigma transmits almost a full T stop more of light and is sharper.
