Third Lense

I have the Sigma 50mm 1.4 and the Canon 70mm - 200mm IS II 2.8 what would be the best lens between these two that wouldn't kill you in the pocket book?

You shouldn't need one between. 50-70mm isn't very far. Do you have wider? Also you might want some primes in the 70-200 range. I go 85mm, 135mm and 200mm prime. Zoom just get beat by primes every time (to me).

24mm is pretty wide, I've got a 16-35mm but you can't really pan at 16 with the distortion.... unless you need that fishbowl look

Why not a 25 or a 35? I rarely whip out my 70-200 anymore… Honestly I just use if for photography or to steal situations run and gun style. For fiction or narrative, I don't find it a good lens at all.

My 24-70 II get used the most, then the Otus 55mm. I can easily imagine that my EF L lenses will stay on the shelf once the complete Otus line is done.

For comparison Deakins said he didn't go over 40mm for Prisoners… (which on an FF would be equiv to 60mm in terms of field of view)

a 14mm is a specialty lens
I would go for a 24 or a 35 first, because they are much more versatile (which probably means a samyang 35mm f/1.4)

Legrevedotcom, why the Otus over a cine lens? I can see for stills but for motion I'd want a smooth aperture and gears. The tests look great but its a lot of clams.

Because I work both worlds… and have a rental business on the side :) Actually the ZE and ZF lines gets rented out a lot in the competition houses but this lens is a step above, both in usage and quality. I've never needed a smooth aperture, so I don't mind not having it. The zip ties are fine for gear on this one, they stick pretty tight to the rubber focus ring.

The Rokinon and Samyang are basically the same lens but named according to what part of the world you buy it in...

But if you do get it, get the gearet version. It's a logic choice for video...

As for the 24-105. I know a few people who chose this over the 24-70 because of the IS. It's pretty useful for shoulder mounted setups, and I guess more versatile than the Samyang. Then you have to sit down and think about what stop you usually shoot at. Can you manage with the extra needed light that the 24-105 demands?
