Thinking of upgrading T2i --> T3i or 60D

I want to preface this by saying the sky is not falling. The T2i still can hold it's own even with the announcement of the T3i.

BUT

I'm currently shooting a lot of event/ENG/night club stuff. The addition of a swivel screen and manual audio was just about enough to make me want to switch up to the 60d.

Now Canon has announced their T3i, which should start shipping near the end of next month. This camera features the two best features (IMHO) of the 60D which I want. Manual audio and the swivel screen.

If I sell now I should be able to get back about $650 for the t2i body. For an extra $150, I can get the T3i, or for an extra $300 I can get the 60D.

I'm not sure what to do here. What's the benefits of the 60D over the T3i as of today? Intermediate ISO's, and anything else?

Or stick with the t2i add ML, take the 150 and put it toward an EVF system or a monitor.

IF...you are able to sell at the price you mentioned, then it would be feasible. Otherwise, stick with your T2i/ML cam DJ. This isn't an upgrade more an update. If you want to upgrade, you go Full-frame imo.

+1

Installing ML would at least give you manual audio....

Before anything i would install ML and get used to it. It will give you manual audio, intermediate ISO, more shutter speeds, dailable color balance and WHOLE lot more. plus it doesnt cost you anything and if you still want to sell the new owner won't know any different if you dont tell them. If you boot with a normal card it just boots normally.

Honestly, I think I'd wait to see what the T3i will offer, but overall, the 60D has practically everything the ML hack does both without a hack and with a swivel screen. For me, the things like the screen, the better battery door, the in-boad RAW editing, ect ect all make me feel like the 60D is worth it. The only thing to worry about is if ML were to come out with an even better hack for the T2i.

And honestly, it may sound a bit unrealistic for the budget shooter, but it may be a good idea to keep the hacked T2i as a B-camera, if you shoot anything other than interviews and documentaries, chances are you'll need a 2nd angle cam more often than you could rent (cheaper in the end too).

Quick Control Dial. That alone is worth the price of admission, particularly if you shoot stills at all with it.

Much better control set up on the 60D. I only sold my 550D because somebody offered me cash one day and I took it. I also sold the 18-55 kit lens and upgraded to a Tamron 17-50 2.8 non VC which was a big improvement for speed.
These cameras are coming so fast I'd wait a while to see if they release a camera that solves a few other issues. If you ask me the 60D for $100 more than the T3i is a much better value. If I get a 5D mk3 I will most likely keep the 60D as a B cam. I don't think I would hang on to a T2i or T3i. Although they have the same resolution, the controls aren't near as good and the plastic body is a little cheap compared to the 60D.
Just chill out and run the T2i for 6 more months, it's a great camera and almost pocket size. My 2 cents.
