F3: Thinking of selling.....

I am thinking of selling my 2 year old F3 kit over here in Europe, ( France right now ). It would be a private sale.

I am moving away from this kind of camera / format and even though it's been a great piece of kit, and continues to be so, it just doesn't suit the way I want to work in the future and I am moving on to a different camera system altogether.

So, just throwing this out there to see whether it's worth selling here or to cart it back to the US at the end of this month and figure out if I will want to sell it there instead.

Here's what I have:
PMW F3 with the full / paid Slog upgrade with about 150 hrs camera usage.
Berkey top plate and front extension.
Zeiss CP Primes: 21 - 28 - 35 - 50 - 85 plus Zeiss fitted Pelican style case
Red 18-50 T3
Sony 18-254 zoom SCL-Z18X140
Tokina 11-16 2.8
MFT Nikon Adapter + Leica R adapter
3x BPU 60's - 2x BPU 30's

Everything is really unmarked and looking new. Never rented out, personal gear.
Anyone interested please PM me

Do yourself a favor and post all those lenses minus the Sony one over at Reduser.

You will maximize your money back. Reduser is crawling with people with money that need PL lenses. You probably know this, but, just in case...

Thanks Nate...good of you to post this.
I will probably do that if I bring the kit back to the US at the end of the month. In fact there's a Red owner in my neck of the woods that expressed interest a few months ago when he learned I was considering switching camera systems.
I am just trying not to cart the stuff back Stateside unless I have to.......Lazy!

I will probably do that if I bring the kit back to the US at the end of the month.

There's many, many european buyers on Reduser. I'd speculate maybe even 50% are Euro.

If your prices are fair (and you can sift through listings on Reduser to determine what fair is), you will sell those lenses quickly before you come back to states.

I started a "for sale" thread on the F3 section of the Sony Community Forums... in fact that is where I sold me F3 back in March. Give it a try there too if you like, don't list the lenses just the F3 and its accessories.

Best of luck, sorry to see you are moving away from this format.

Hello "Starcentral", "vanvideo" and "wannabeapilot", thanks for your postings.....
I've reluctantly decided to sell the F3 kit because quite frankly I am not using it very much and carting it back and forth between my places in France and the US is getting old news. There's other gear I have access to in both places so perhaps owning and travelling the equipment all the time isn't really necessary for me now.......I'll keep travelling my lght-meter though, ( just kidding! )

For my personal work the F3 was becoming too much of a camera to work "small" / solo and cart around so I have been looking for something simpler for those kind of filming projects that I am always plugging away at. I settled on buying, ( just ordered it ), an Ikonoskop DII. I feel that I am going to like it's form factor as it is so close in philosophy to the other cameras I love working with, my Aatons, and for still photography my Leicas. I also still have a lot of truly great S16 glass so the camera choice seems to be a good fit. We'll see I guess....

I wonder if you will like the Ikonoscoop viewfinder.
please let us know how it works out.
The Ikonoskoop is an outsider, but could be great as a sort of digital S16.
So many people (I'm one of them) still have wonderfull S16 lenses gathering dust.

Hello Thomas, yes, I wonder about the viewfinder too. I've ordered the camera without actually handling one, so that remains to be seen as to how it is.
It's quite low res' and frankly I am not expecting the VF to be great, but I haven't read too many grumbles about it so maybe I will be pleasantly surprised.

Having shot S16 for so many years I love the format and the look. it is great for doc's and Indie short films where you can not worry too much about a really shallow DOF and miss focus, and like you I kept my S16 glass, still shooting film with it in fact, so I look forward to taking it out more often when the DII arrives.

I will miss the F3 if I do sell it though........and i will always keep tabs on this forum, truly a great community.

Interesting choice, petemullett. As Thomas said, the Ikonoscop is an outsider, but sometimes it's good to be different. Between an F3 and a DII, I'd pick the DII as well. Some of the footage I've seen has been fantastic.
I just pre-ordered a BM Pocket Cam, sort of a poor man's DII. Maybe some day....

This is my favorite DII video. Love the look of the black and white!

Thanks vanvideo, actually if I was buying a camera again for commercial work then even now with the newer offerings out there the F3 would be high up there as an excellent choice. It truly is a great camera with a lot of production range to it.
I picked the DII for personal work, personal projects and something that would be easy to work with solo, a digital A-Minima if you like. Something I was hoping against hope that JP / Aaton would have produced. Sadly no.....
I can't see turning up for many commercial shoots though with a DII, most clients wouldn't "get it".
But yes I've seen some really nice footage from the Ikonoskop, some terrible stuff too, but I like very much the film-like ethics of the camera.

Hi Peter, sorry to hear you are moving on. I would be interested in your Sony zoom lens - I am in the uk- if the price was right, so pls let me know what you had in mind. Best wishes, Sparky

I was on the fence on getting an Ikonoscop D-II myself, but decided to go with a used F35. As such I'll be super curious to see your thoughts on it once you've had it for a while. Something about the s16 inspired image that the D-II produces feels very warm & intimate to me. Best of luck!

The CP-2 Primes have been sold......For now I will keep the F3 the two zooms and the MTF / Nikon adapter as I have some work for the kit in the US next month. After that, and after I receive the Ikonoskop A-Cam DII, I will reconsider whether to keep the F3 or not.
Thanks to everyone who contacted me about the camera and lenses a week or so back.
Peter
