Thinking about the HVX200...

I've been a DVX-100 user for around 2 years now, and I'm beginning pre-production for a feature-length project that, at earliest, will begin shooting this June. That being said I was originally planning on shooting it on the DVX, but now after looking at all the images I've seen I'm considering using the HVX.

I just have a few questions concering the HVX that hopefully someone could answer.

1) The HVX, does it have the same lens mount on the front of it. IE (the DVX does not have a removable lens, but it does allow for lenses such as a 35mm adapter to be attached to the front of it.) If I purchase a 35mm adapter for some projects I'm working on now, will that be able to fit on the front of the HVX or will I be S-O-L?

2) I know it's been mentioned that it's possible to record using FCP's 'capture now' settings with a laptop to capture footage from the P2 cards. For the project I'm working on it would be improbable to do such a method, but it's also too expensive for me to purchase a **** load of p2 cards. How does one normally transfer data from the p2 cards to a computer? And If I were to take a laptop with me on set, would it be probable that in between takes I could 'dump' the p2 card onto a MacbookPRO and keep shooting?

Thanks for your help, I'm just trying to make some decisions now concerning format before June is suddenly 'here'.

hello,
1) You can put a 35mm adaptor on top of the HVX lens too.

2) You can connect your HVX to the computer in "HOST" mode evidently
via USB2 or Firewire and the P2 cards will show up on your desktop and you import the files into FCP
...with "capture now" you would be firewire streaming directly into FCP and not needing P2

cheers,

A little cousion there.

Whether a 35mm adapter will fit the HVX depends entirly on the adapter. The HVX has a different size lens to the DVX, so the mount would also have ot be a little different.

As for teh dumping in the field. You have many options:
You can pull teh cards out and stick them into any PC slot in a laptop and they will apear as a drive (some machines need the free driver to be installed)
You can plug the camera into the laptop and use it as the PC card reder to do the same thing.
You can also use that "host" mode on teh HVX to dump the cards to any USB2 drive between takes.
There's others too, but those are the basic ways to offload a P2 card.

You can also record live, to a leptop, a firestore, or the cineporter. or stram firewire out to a DVCpro deck, or use the P2 dump-drive to dump the P2 cards to if you don't want to carry a laptop. Many options though.
