Thanks B-man for coming to my rescue!

Honestly, I have felt a little like a thread-whore hitting all these threads but it is so cool to check out what people are doing and hearing their progress.

And I feel like it is impolite to not say anything when I leave the room!

My mama raised me to have manners!

I agree... hit up the threads all the time... it's one thing to post useless stuff in the cafe (I am guilty as charged) and another to be seriously interested in other's work on these horror pics. It's all good.

Man, have I got some updates. Some pretty funny blooper reel stuff. I don't know if I should post because I don't want to reveal some surprises.

But, I had a couple of funny things happen while the cam was rolling.

I will post updates tomorrow. East coast time zone and it is beddy-by time.

I promise to post updates in the AM!

Make sure you put the bloopers on the B side so it doesn't cut into your 6 minutes...

I'll hold you to those updates man...

Thanks Tommy! Will get to updates soon.

ANYONE WITH ADVICE OR KNOW OF THREADS COVERING BASIC COLOR CORRECTION???

PLEASE POST A REPLY.

I AM USING FCP AND DO HAVE MAGIC BULLET.

I AM LOOKING FOR SIMPLE REMEDIES OR ADVICE ON HOW TO MAKE SHOTS FLOW FROM ONE TO ANOTHER.

I HAVE USED THE SEARCH AND READ MANY POSTS BUT HAVE YET TO NAIL DOWN A SPECIFIC ONE FOR FINAL CUT PRO.

Thanks!

Ted

Wow! What great stuff you've been doing Ted! Right up my alley! (Before I forget, thanks for the "squeeze" tip about scanning issues with EVF/LCD differences!)

I look forward to seeing your work in all its gory glory! (And the other works in progress as well, from all the participants.)

Maybe by next year, if I have the know-how and confidence by then, I might join in with something in the creative horror-fest.

Keep going Ted! And everyone else!

Matt (Impossible)

Hey Matt! Thanks for visiting! Yeah, you'll be glad you heard that squeeze tip once you start framing in the LCD thinking that the new overscan feature of the 100b shows you 100% of the footage caught to tape. uh-uh! Only in 4:3 will you have 100% framing.

And i imagine it won't take you a year to gain the know-how and confidence to participate in the short film fests here.

It's a great community here. Many people willing to share experiences and examples. Use the search engine on this site. It is amazing!

Feel free to drop me a private message if you have a question. I'll be happy to assist in any way I can. But, please note, I am a novice here as well.

Get learning Matt!

Enjoy!

Ted

T.G. I enjoyed looking at your stills. They look very good, particularly the graveyard shot, and I was glad someone put up a sequence of images you can scroll down and animate. That crossed my mind after I found out we were only allowed still shots. Way to push the envelope.

Well, I figured that since that shot wasn't going to make the final cut, I could do that and get away with it!

Thanks for checking my stuff out!

I will be posting some bloody pics tonight! (I know, I know.... I said in the AM yesterday, but hey! I am shooting and gabbing on dvxuser!)

Okay, updates are here.

I have words to say, but let me post the bloody pics first!

Here they come!

These grabs are of a bleeding ceiling! Yep! I devised a rig to capture falling blood. It was a mess but hopefully it will be worth it!

(you may notice dark streaks here and there... that would be the falling blood droplets. Let me just say that in motion, it is pretty cool!)

I have pics of the BTS of shooting this but it contains an item that I am seeking a patent for and can't display this right now.

Let me just say it was a mess! I complete mess!

More to come as we wind down!!!!

Thanks for being patient.

Okay.... I need to update my diary and I may get around to it before the end of Horrorfest. But if I don't get to it, I plan on starting a thread on a beginners guide to making a film!

Some of the highlights will be....

HIRE ACTORS... this seems a simple enough statement. But if you are a multi-talented, over-acheiver who thinks that you can do everything on you own... consider this. When making your first film, you have MANY things to think about! Direction, Cinematography, Lighting, Lighting, Lighting. And Wardrobe!

In my experience today, I shot several scenes today (yes, I am my own actor in my film) with a piece of GAFF TAPE on the back of my pants!!!!!!!!!

I was downloading my footage and I thought... what the (bleep) is that? Yep! gaff tape.

I have learned a lot during this experience. I wouldn't trade it for anything (well, yeah I would!) but this valuable experience has taught me a lot.

I will be posting more.... no, not necessarily for you old pro's out there. But for the newbies like me who think that we know what we are doing until we figure out that we don't.

Other chapters will include....

Lights, lights, lights...

Exposure... over, under, what the heck?

Color Correction... how do I do that?

White Balance? YES! Do IT!!!! Don't skip this step!!!!!!!!!

And many more (I'm sure!)

There are a lot of other new filmmakers out there like me and I hope that some of my information can reach them.

I will post here and perhaps in the the general forum.

If you are a newbie and have a question or concern... feel free to write me here in this thread or PM me. I will do my best to advice, assist or direct.

Believe me... this crap aint easy.

It's okay to think that you can do any and everything... but when you realize that you can't, I hope that I can offer some help!

(I don't mean to sound negative but I am the most self-assured, strong-minded, confident person I know and I am getting my butt kicked on this film! I am just trying to offer encouragement and assistance!)

Good luck and happy shooting!

Ted

Man, you ought to write a book! "How I made my first film and how you can learn from my oversights." Title's kinda long though... heh

Thanks Tommy. I may do that!

Dear Diary...

Well, yesterday was a real humbling experience for me as a filmmaker. I am discovering that I have a lot to learn. I mentioned some of the topics in post #97. There are plenty of areas that I need improvement on.

Let me first just say that I am glad that I decided to enter this festival and will submit my film no matter how it looks. The experience and the feedback cannot be replaced with just shooting footage around the house and looking at it later.

I really do plan on starting a thread about the learning pains of properly using the dvx and attempting filmmaking. I think that it will be insightful for many beginners.

In no way do I intend to proclaim that I have the answers, but I am sure that I can propose a lot of questions that beginners can relate to and comment on.

Perhaps, together in a forum, we can take some of the mystery out of this craft and produce some quality work.

In this festival, I relied on my creativity, energy and enthusiasm to make a film. Hopefully by the next festival, I can rely on knowledge and experience.
