TheatreGuy's "ID"

Compact and full of twists and turns. Enjoyable.

Downside is the audio. Seems it peaks way too much.

Fun movie though.

I can feel the fun factor in this one. Ted you're an amazing one man show here and
the acting is perfect. The music was kinda b movie quality but, I think that worked
in your favor here. I think it was stated earlier about the comedic elements used
in your short, I love em! Fork Fork Fork Fork Fork!

I've enjoyed this thread from the very begining to the finished product all the
while learning from your experiences, I sucked at BTS posts. I too can't wait to
see what you do for the next fest! You have a level of excitment that's pretty
damned infectious. Just reading your post's makes me wanna leap out of my
sheety $12 Ikea chair to start making another film!
Hey Inexistence, Thanks for the comments. I really appreciate it!

I hope the next fest is announced soon... I'm itching to get started again!!!

Thank you, Pennypacker. I appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment on my film. I had a lot of fun making it. It was a fantastic learning experience and, as they say.... "you never forget your first!"

I do need help with audio. I had no idea that it was so difficult to create great sound.

This is a call to anyone who stumbles on this thread and can offer suggestions on books for "sound." I know that I can google it, but there are a bazillion references for "Sound."

Thanks!

Hey Ted

I enjoyed your film. I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would. "this guy made this alone?....did his own acting....first film hes ever made....how could it be that great?"

So...you definately suprised me when I watched it. I was impressed all around. The story was good. The guy terrorized by his past is a good idea and it works well in the shortfilm timeframe. I didnt have any trouble following what was going on. As the story went I thought you built some good tension....I would be on edge wondering when he would have his next vision.

I thought you did a good job acting in it. The only thing I didnt like was the excessive **** words. It worked for the first couple...but there were a few too many I thought. As I mentioned previously....good beard. I'd give it a ten if we were voting for coolest beard.

I didnt really like the editing at first. The cuts were so fast in the first few seconds. But hey...its a short film and your trying to convey a story in a short amount of time. As the movie went on I thought the editing got much better.

The direction was a step above decent. Better than I'd expect from someone doing it alone...but without considering that I'd say it could be better. To be fair though...there were shots I really enjoyed. The shoveling in the graveyard especially. I wished I would have got to see more of that. All thats just my opinion though....and I'm really nobody to say anything.

The music was kinda synthy....but I think it worked. Like I said before...you definately built up tension. The sound was ok....a little blown out at times.....like when you dropped the f-bombs. Even so it was about 10 times better than mine!

Cinematography was very good outside and in the basement. I didnt like it as much in the rest of the house but it worked. The flashlight shots were nice.

For your effects I thought you had good blood....except for the blood coming out of the soap dispenser...that was a little too ketchupy for me. Your actress was made up well....looked like a killed lady. The suicide shot was great.

Well...overall...cool film. Enjoyable to watch and a good story. I look forward to seeing what you do next.

hey ted,

you rock.

ps. mark johnson is going to swing by lincoln this november and were going to get some dinner and talk movies ;) you should fly to nebraska from new hampshire =)

Weston, that was a great critique! Thank you for sharing this. I tell you, the F-bombs were not scripted, just the result of running around my house with no other actors to work off and doing all the crazy BTS stuff myself as well as acting. I tell you, it was insane!

You really do bring up a lot of great points. And I too, can't wait to take on a new project and bring it to a new level. No more behind and in front of the camera stuff again! I want to spend a lot more time with the cinematography aspect. Like your film was so beautiful. I want that.

I always have my beard (I hope) so if we bump into eachother on the street, please say hello and introduce yourself!

Thanks again!

Ted,
Thanks for the comment. I must say I liked your film very much as well. It was one of the first I watched and as I watched the rest it continued to be one of the best. I think I gave it 5th or 6th highest in score, but as far as how much I liked it, I would rank it higher. I haven't left reviews for very many films yet. I read through the threads and any helpful crits I can think of have mostly been expressed already. I was a little bit confused by your ending, but that has been discussed and explained. I thought it seemed a bit like the end of a Creepshow episode. Not sure if they are really called episodes. What do you call one of the shorts in a 3 or 4 story movie? The only other slight gripe I had was that I thought the fading out of the murdered woman in the basement was overused. Not sure if that was mentioned before. Anyway, overall just a really good film. Also your thread is awesome.

Fav acting (other than the many FUC*s that were said) was you talking to the ghost/hallucination in the mirror. Though it was all good.

Nick

Thanks jeans, thanks a lot!

Yeah, you know... I tried to find a replacement for the f-bombs but I didn't want to use Jesus Christ or God (though I did let one slip in) and I actually thought that I would loop all of this dialogue at the end. But, I ran out of time and left it.

I hope it didn't offend.

Yes, the creepshow vignettes or stories... I don't know what there called. Does have that feel.

And the murdered woman in the basement... I tried to mix it up by different timings and one is blurred. The first one, I wanted it to be such a glimpse that you don't know if you saw her. It is a bit too long. Bothers me everytime I see it.

I don't know any VFX so I used manual ones. I was limited!

Thank you for viewing and leaving me this feedback. I really do appreciate it!!!

No not at all, I was trying to say I thought it was good. I guess I didn't word that very well. Just to make things clear, I wasn't saying that I thought the Creepshow feeling was a bad thing either. That may have not have been given the proper context. I definitely don't have a problem with the fuc*ing Word FUC*. Hey by the way, do you know if we are strictly prohibited to write that word out on this forum. I don't do it just because everyone else seems to abbreviate it as well and I don't want to offend anyone either.

if you write the word fu*k it comes out as "****"

this is why no one actually types the word... it makes you sound stupid.
for instance:

You are a ****ing moron you ****ing little **** bag.

Just taking another look at this.
Again - great work man, already good while showing tons of potential.
I can't wait to see what you gave for us next fest!

Hey, I took it as a compliment! I kinda like my abrupt endng. I just wished that I had more time to get in that the wife thinks that she actually had something to do with his death!

Thanks Jack! This means a lot. Thanks for taking another look!

I am sure that this experience of submitting, reviewing, being reviewed and seeing other work will only enhance my next project. I am so excited to start implenting what I have learned over the past 6 weeks!

Thanks Again!

>>>>

Now for the test.... hit submit.... and see what happens to all of those ****s I typed!

Yeah! Isn't this fun?!!!

I thought that people were going out of there was to type the word POO POO! When all the while they were typing ****!
