You might have heard that Kirkman penned a bonus comic giving a little backstory to the newly added character
Michonne (pictured in my previous post).

Well I just got this link off reddit/r/walkingdead and I thought I'd share.
HollywoodReporter is hosting Michonne's Story,
not sure how long it will last LINK

OMG - and we here, on the other side of the pond, have to wait almost an other year.

Grrrrr - feels like I´m living in a third world country, regarding movies, TV serials, supermarkets and home improvement stores.

That last episode was the best so far in satisfying the missing elements from the comic, I guess missing is not the best word more like soon to come. Michonne by far my favorite character, come on she uses the one weapon I always say I would go for in a zombie apocalypse. The helicopter, and the final shot of the prison. there were a few other elements but I'll refrain from mentioning them as they could be spoilers or irrelevant coming from the comics perspective.

Oh and I did yell out when Michonne was introduced, loved that scene, loved how she is almost exactly the same as the comic(even had a better introduction), even the Zombies in tow were right on, very well done rap up to the season.

Now lets get this show rolling and get into the real gritty stuff!

Having watched the entire season (minus the finale) here are some of my thoughts.
And before anyone calls me a hater or some nonsense, back it up. I'm still watching so that gives me the right to ***** a little.

I'll start with Carl (the kid) because he pisses me off so much. Not so much him, more his parents, but it revolves around him.
Who's watching this poo pooing kid!? Seriously. People are dying off left right and center. They are surrounded by zombie infested woods and now they even have a large group of killers and rapists in the area. But this kid wanders off on his own ALL THE TIME. Come on. It's just plain stupid.

Anyone with kids knows that it would never happen but they constantly put people in moronic situations all the time. Why? To get them in trouble. Create action/drama.

It's stupid. Really bad writing. I can't count how many times they've gone off to do something stupid. Every last one of them.

What's that kid? You wandered out into the woods and found a zombie? Stole a gun? It's OK. It's not your fault Dale got eaten. Sure, he himself is a moron that decided to wander out at night, but you could have told Mom and Dad. Here, keep the gun. I'm sure when we run out again into the woods in the middle of the night you won't come following because I'm sure your mother will be watching you. Now stay here. Ugh...

Doing ANYTHING solo in this world is stupid. Especially a pregnant woman driving down the road by herself to look for her husband who's already proven that he can take care of himself about a billion times! Come on.

I could go on and on about the ridiculous decisions these people make. Writers, do me a favor, stop having people do moronic things just to move the plot along and create encounters. Yeah, I know we just can't have them bunker down and do nothing, but please be creative with it.

And somebody please put a leash on Carl.

Still watching. But pulling my hair out at the same time.

Great post, MAH.

Let's look at it another way. The show works so well because all of the characters are annoying, worthless, and irrational - just like in REAL LIFE. :)

If people behaved 100% rationally, I'd argue that a zombie apocalypse would be pretty easy to repel.

Regarding Carl; Yes, he is annoying, but it's TOTALLY believable. He was well behaved in season 1, but has started acting out as of season 2. He got shot, she's getting older, and his female age mate was zombie-killed right in front of him. I think his acting like a brat is believable.

Also, his parents are a bit distracted. Not to excuse any of the countless poor decisions, but it is what it is.

People often criticize movies or tv shows for the stupid actions the characters take. I don't think that's unbelievable or bad writing at all. It's just annoying. Annoying by design I'd say. Who doesnt like screaming at the tv when someone does something stupid?

Kids that young, in a zombie apocalypse, wouldn't be allowed to wander off alone.
Even adults would stay in groups.

I don't mind Carl's behaviour, it's not about throwing rocks at zombies or stealing guns. It's about being able to because his parents don't seem to care.
Most of the time they are just walking around the house/barn. I watch my kids better in a NORMAL world.

I like shows where the writing is brilliant and people still do stupid/crazy ****. Breaking Bad FTW.
This isn't that. This is just putting people in precarious positions for the sake of action with little to no thought behind it.

It's not all the time, but it's at least once a show. I'm just getting sick of it.

You can't be that sick of it if you're taking time to write about how much you hate it in this thread ! :)

Try to be happy that others are happy and enjoying it. Plus you just have to give mad respect to Robert Kirkman.
He went from creating and writing his own black and white comic series ... to being at the helm of a highly successful well funded TV series !
I'm sure we all would like to make a transition like that.

MAH. you make some interesting points regarding post-apocalyptic parenting, but you then brought up Breaking Bad. I really see no difference here. How are the dumb decisions in breaking bad more realistic than those in WD?

The characters on the farm thought they were safe. That's a theme of the show. It was a false sense of security so they didn't literally SIT on Carl like I would my kid if we were at a camp site in the woods with zombies (Season 1).

How are the precarious character positions smarter in breaking bad than they are in WD?

I gotta agree with you, MAH. Put a leash on Carl and call it a day.

SPOILERS:
I guess I'm one of the haters, though I'm trying my best not to be. I want to love this show and for it to be everything I ever dreamed in a zombie show. I LOVE ZOMBIE STUFF!! Now, overall it's a good show, even if it IS moving slowly (until now...finally!). But, I think the kills in the season finale were pretty safe. Look at who was killed: members of the family on the farm ... that we REALLY don't know too much about anyway (comparatively). The only reason I even know their names is because I went back to watch it again. Jimmy and Patricia are dead! Does it matter? Nope. They might as well have killed off Carol as she's becoming pointless now that her daughter is gone. Shane should have died in this episode, leaving everyone saying, "Whaaaaaat?!"

And when Rick tells the group he killed Shane, and it was justified, everyone looked at him like he was spouting off racist slurs to the rest of the group. "You did WHAT?!" Uh, I'm sorry, Shane was trying to kill him, and would have had Rick let him live. This was the THIRD time that Shane had Rick in his sights to kill him. Lori needs to get a grip (preferably on her wandering child). She basically told Rick that something needed to be done, and he took care of it. Maybe it's the pregnancy hormones.

The most interesting story right now is Andrea's. That hooded assassin and her two armless zombie friends look awesome as all heck, and I can't wait to see where this goes.

So yeah, I guess I'm in the hater camp, but I'm trying my best, guys.

I think "hater" is a loaded term. It's obvious we all love the show. I think people are annoyed by a few things. All the points mentioned are not an indictment of the show. They are an indictment of the characters. I love the fact that the characters are pissing me and everyone else off. The zombies are incidental. This show is really about human behavior during high stress situations and societal decay (obliteration?). This is why we're so invested. It's really resonating in an ingenious way.

Regarding Shane:
Despite Shane's worthlessness, I can see things from the group's perspective. Hearing that Rick killed Shane has got to be really disturbing for SEVERAL reasons. Shane saved that group's lives since the early days of the outbreak. He's only slowly cracked recently. Having this internal self inflicted mortality has got to be really scary. Put yourself in the group's place.

I think that's the key to enjoying the show. You have to be vicarious to a fault. :)

Thank god this season is over. Yes, I'm a hater for this season. I could not stand one more moment on that stupid farm, where next to nothing was happening all the time.

The best part of this season was that opening flashback where you see several military helicopters fly by overhead, and eventually you see them napalming the city streets in the middle of the night. I was hoping ( preying ) that this was foreshadowing of the episodes to come, but no such luck, still stuck on the stupid farm. Maybe Season 3 will finally give us a taste of what we saw in that flashback...

It's all about motivation. In Breaking Bad the motivations are clear. They make sense. Even if you say... I wouldn't do that, you know that some people would. In Walking Dead they portray the parents as caring, yet they allow their kids to run around without supervision. Even after some get eaten. It's not even like Carl is defying them at times, he's just bored.

I'll agree to disagree, but I know when things make sense and when they don't. A lot of it just doesn't make sense but it makes it really convenient for them to run into more zombies. :)

Still watching, so I don't hate the show. I would just like to see more things happen based on motivation, not stupidity.

It is also in the latest Playboy issue...and (mark my words) this Michonne side plot is gonna add to the death of this show.

What a ridiculous concept! Chained bottom-jawless zombies are not gonna keep other walkers away from her. I though the zombie guts disguise bit in the first season made sense. But even that ruse wore off once the rain washed of the scent & their "human" smell returned. First it was Jump the Shark, then Nuke the Fridge...now comes Chain the Walker(s).

Of course, for me, the digital blood splatter brought me right the hell out of what would have been a decently-written second season. Then again, I still say firing Darabont will go down as one of the biggest fukeroo decisions in television history...
