The Walking Dead - Frank Darabont's Zombie Show on AMC!

I'm going against my memory of last season, but it felt to me like the actors had a slightly stronger handle on the characters they were playing, and the episode didn't feel slow to me. I felt there was tension throughout the whole thing. I thought the look of the show also was less grainy than last year and not as rough.

SPOILER ALERT

-----------------------

Who wants to take bets that the person who shot the deer and Karl ends up being Morgan Jones, played by Lennie James (the dude and his son that saved Rick in the season one premiere)?

I'm having a love/hate affair with this show.

Sometimes I just love the tense moments. Other times I can't get over the stupidity of their actions, but then it leads to some of the tense moments I was talking about.

As for this weeks ending... WTF!?

Did I catch a little tip of the hat to Breaking Bad in this Sunday's episode? When Daryl took out Merle's meds, he said crystal meth and it looked like Walter White's 'blue' recipe.

My G/F is a massive fan of this so I reluctantly caught up on it this week.. I felt S1 dragged even with its sort ep run, but season 2 has started far more promisingly.

Their current location, the farm house, is so Night of the Living Dead. I'm just waiting for the zombies to start stumbling up the lawn.

I'm up-to-date with the comic, just read issue 90. BTW - no spoilers in my post.

Hershels farm is awesome.

There are some great characters introduced here, I am enjoying season 2 so far. It good to see them delving deeper into Shane's character and at last we meet Maggie !

Just catching up again on this, hmmmmm, things seem to have slowed down considerably and the zombies seem to have taken a big step-back. Not bad, but hardly worthy of the crazy ratings it's earning...

Yeah, the show has been running in place for several episodes. Pretty obvious that due to budget problems they are stretching out every scene, location and exchange of dialogue to save bucks, but the story is going nowhere at this point.

I'm a reader of the monthly comic/graphic novel and they're following that fairly well and the story is about the human interactions, loves and losses.

Right now the TV series season 2 episode 4 is roughly equivalent to Issue 10/11 in the story arc.

I really don't care about the comic. Season 1 didn't have this problem. This season, scenes just drag on, characters repeat themselves, and situations are dwelling past the point of me caring (the lost girl subplot a prime example). I'm still watching but I hope the storytelling sharpens up.

My buddy nailed this for me... "It's like a soap opera... with zombies!"

I have to agree.

Spoiler:
And I'm REALLY getting sick of the STUPID s**t they do in order to create tension. The 'well' scene.... please. What a joke. That was beyond ridiculous.
Falling off the horse down the cliff. I called that about a minute before it happened. I also knew he would impale himself along the way. Far too predictable.

What's her face shooting through a crowd of people from a huge distance. Come on!
They all talk about not drawing attention to themselves, everyone tells her not to, and she does it anyway. Stupid.

I did like how last nights episode finished though. That was intriguing.
But man, there is a lot of garbage throughout that you have to endure in order to get to the interesting stuff.

And now she's pregnant? Oh boy.
And yeah, the lost girl plot, get on with it already.

It makes you think though... some people around here could pull this show off. The budget isn't huge. That's for sure.

you guys may as well quit watching then because there's a lot more of it coming !!! I recently read Issue 90 where they're trying to rebuild a civilization. Not one zombie in the issue

I don't care how many zombies there are, and the end of last nights episode tells us that there are plenty.

I just want them to stop doing stupid crap in order to endanger lives needlessly, that's all. Do they stop doing that!??

The first firing of Darabont gave the world The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Maybe that should have been a hint as to what not to do...

The Curse of the Bambino ain't got nothing on Curse of the Darbonto.

I think you'd like the graphic novels ... it won the 2010 Eisner Award for Best Continuing Series and I found it a gripping read, especially from about issue 20-60.
In the drawn series can see what Kirkman (writer) is trying to do - he builds arcs for characters, gives them hopes and dreams then rips it all away in violent burst of writer sadism, punishing the characters to the brink of insanity and despair - then builds them up again.

From a filmmakers point of view, I find it interesting watching the TV series. Kirkman is having to deal with many more pressures as it is not just 3 guys in a room writing and drawing comics. There is serious money now, and serious expectations and with many cooks in the kitchen so to speak. Kirkman is still guiding the direction of the show but to some extent he is at the mercy of the director and the actors.

The way the comic's over all story arc is written means that any live action recreation is heavily dependent on acting and directing and unfortunately it has been shining in that department. I'm not saying I could do any better, you can knock a lot of things about the show. But my point was that the reason they are staying at this one location and spending lots of time on dialog and human interaction has nothing to do with saving money. Thats what this series is.

Like it or not, and I'm starting to lean to the latter, the show has never been more popular.
They even have a Walking Dead talk show that follows each episode. Crazy stuff.

I agree though. If things don't change they're in trouble.
Although the first season was far from perfect as well. It's not like he left them them a goldmine.
